Can Vantage Customer or Vendor Contacts be imported or exported

John,

Sorry, I forgot to mention there are two ODBC links.

The OBDC link from Access to Vantage - READ ONLY - Open db on server, log
into, and leave running!
Then create a ODBC DSN to the Access DB - ALSO: READ ONLY. Users get there
data from here without
having to log into the Vantage ODBC. With READ ONLY you should not have a
problem with users
corrupting the data.

Also, at our last user group meeting, Kevin Rosell from Epicor mentioned the
idea of possibly putting all the contacts into one table in Vantage. This
would
make things much easier or harder depending on how your populate other
contact lists !!

HTH,
Calvin

Hi Calvin,

How do you link Access db to Vantage without have the risk of corrupting
the Vantage Database?

Patrick -

For a one time dump, use the BAM/Export Utility and then map the data
into Outlook.

Also you use an Access DB on the server with link tables to Vantage,
you can create a dynamic link between Vantage and Outlook as well as
Vantage and WinFax. In Winfax you can setup a separate phone book
that is dynamic from Vantage and in Outlook you can setup a separate
contact list that is dynamic from Vantage. This way the user only
needs to maintain the contacts in just Vantage - not both systems.

Calvin

I've never done this, but you could dump the info from Vantage into an excel
sheet.

Then import that info into Contacts. There would be some mapping involved
from the excel sheet to outlook.

Sorry can't give more info than that.

Since I'm a big supporter of using Access to create reports and such
with Vantage, I would link to the database with ODBC and e-mail directly
from Access when necessary. That way you would never have to update the
contacts since you're working off the live database. If you want to
create the contacts, then Access can do that as well. Search on
Microsoft's website for the VB code to create contacts and you will be
able to automate the process.

I have done this in a two step process. First I created an Access DB
that uses make table queries to refresh the contact info in the
Access tables. The I purchased a program called Orbis Intelliware
that will take the data from Access and populate an Outlook Contact
list with it. I have several public contact lists being managed in
this way, all the data is maintained in Vantage and updates run
automatically overnight so changes are reflected in Outlook the next
day. If someone needs to see the change sooner than that we can run
the processes manually and within a few minutes Outlook is updated.

I just went to the Orbis Software web site and it looks like
Intelliware has been changed to TaskCentre. If anyone knows how to
link or update an Exchange Public folder in any other means I'd be
interested in hearing how.

you can read all day long using odbc ! you just cannot write to the db.

we have several intranet odbc reads
1. mro
2. pricing sheets

we also send out order confirmations and shipping notifications each night
using odbc.

how get around the writing limitation is we create a copy of the data -
fields and records in sql.
