Catch up on the scrapped sub-assembles

Hello, Happy Friday! I have a question about how we handle a catch up on sub-assembles if it was scrapped.

Situation:
A Job has one sub-assembly (Pull As Asm). Qty/Parent for the sub-assembly to the top is 3. The Job required qty for the top part is 10EA, thus the required qty for the sub-asm is 30EA.

We ran the first two operations OP10 and OP20 for the sub-asm, and we got good completed qty of 30EA.

Now on the OP30, it has completed qty of 25EA. 5 was scrapped.

Questions:
If we need to rebuild the 5 sub-asm from the first operation OP10. What is the best way to handle it?

I am thinking couple options, but it just not perfect. Here is one of the option:

  1. Adding a material on the top level (ASM: 0) with the sub-asm’s part number. Fixed Qty for the 5EA. Make it Make-Direct so MRP will generate the unfirm MTJ job for it.
Problem: How the planner tell the system to downsize the remaining operations on the sub-assembly from 30EA to 25EA?? If we don’t downsize the sub-assembly, Op50 and so on still have a job operation run qty of 30EA, and in fact they can only make as much as 25EA. I hesitate to use Qty/Parent to adjust the SubAsm required qty.

Thanks,
Mike

Yeah, that’s a problem Epicor has, they don’t handle any of that for you so have to to it all yourself. We haven’t come up with a great solution either.

Seeing as you are only at the saw, I would issue more material to cover the scrap and do the other 5 if possible. If you were farther down the road, I would drop the production qty, but you would still have to create another job to cover
the shortage. Better to fix it at the start than do catchup later.
