The BPM might have an issue if you have the inventory stored in Multiple
locations at the same time.
You might want to revisit backflushing that (or those) specific parts.
* Is there a reason for backflushing the part?
* Who is pulling the materials, the Operator?
* Who knows where the materials are if a default bin is used?
* If the backflushed materials went negative, where did the real
materials come from?
Maybe a dashboard which shows the bins in a low condition would allow
you to see when the default bin needs to be filled.

Having re-read my posting, I could have worded this one more
effectively.
The problem is that a specific part's default bin is where it will be
backflushed (or added to inventory in the case of mfg'ed). But the place
where we store parts is always changing.
To have the part backflush from the correct location, I'd have to change
the
default bin every time we store the part in a new location.
I'm thinking that I'll need to create a BPM that will change the default
bin
whenever a receipt or an inventory movement occurs.

So the question is why segregate like parts into different bins? You
must have a REALLY good reason to not want to combine parts....because
you can....unfortunately 8.x doesn't have rev control for inventory.
Not sure if version 9 does.
One solution is to either have a report for where parts are located for
your shipping dept, or do a BAQ for your shippers to use so they can see
where the parts are located.

Hello and thank you for the input. We have set the default bin for the
parts
in the part master. I'll give an example to better explain my dilema.
1. We receive part ABC which is set to bin1 as it's default bin.
2. The receiver stores the part ABC but bin1 is taken so he store it
in bin5 and moves the qty in Vantage accordingly.
3. Part ABC is used and the inventory is relieved from bin1 because
that is the default set in the part master. bin1 goes into a negative
inventory qty when bin5 has parts available.
I don't want to have to reset my default bin every time we store parts
in a
new location, which is very common.

You set your default bin per part in the part maintenance screen. When
you receive parts to stock from a job it should automatically go to its
default location. When you receive parts from purchase, click the 'to
location' button and that will bring up the default bin location for
that part as defined in the part master. With some exceptions (mostly
human driven) it works pretty well for us.

Subject: [Vantage] Default Bin Dilema
Hello group and TGIF!
We're currently using one bin location (DEFAULT) for all parts. To
improve parts locating on the shop floor, I want to start using specific
bin locations. The problem I'm having is that Vantage backflushes from
the default bin instead of the bin that actually has qty on hand.
I entered some production in pilot and saw the manufactured components
being backflushed from empty default bins and while other bins of the
same part, with qty-on-hand, were not utilized.
Aside from changing the default bin everytime we receive, manufacture or
move inventory is there a way to work around this?
