A question for Epicor Kinetic:
If I have a sales order line and MRP has created a PO suggestion for it, Can I (would the software let me) just close the line when:
A PO has been created for the PO suggestion and received and closed.
A PO has been created for the PO suggestion but has not been processed.
No PO has been created for the PO suggestion.
Thank you
Feel free to correct me where necessary but I think the answers are…
Case 1 - if the PO’s been received/closed, the sales order line should already be closed upon receipt (especially if it’s a dropship, that’s how ours works)
Case 2 - if you close/void the sales order line, it may very well close the PO line too…this one I’m not 100% sure of
Case 3 - I’d think you should be able to just close the sales order line…and the PO suggestion should disappear upon the next run of Generate Suggestions (and if you try to convert to a PO, it should probably fail out for the now-closed sales order)
Thank you, John, that’s my understanding too and just wanted to confirm it. Last question is since the demand triggering the PO suggestion is gone (in Scenarios 2), the system wont give any warning for the halfway in progress PO, correct? we need to handle this ourselves.
Ans, since I am new to this forum, how can I contact you where needed please?
I think you’ll have to test Case 2 out…I think the closure of the sales order line will close the PO line as well.
If you need to reach out just tag me in a thread @jmpconj and I can pop in. Plenty of good resources in this place that know WAAAAAAAAAAAY more than I do.
One key piece of this… is the PO being bought to inventory? If so, then the sales order and the purchase order are independent of one another and you can merrily close the sales order any time you wish for any reason (or no reason) at all. If you close the sales order prior to receiving the purchase order, MRP will create a “change po suggestion” telling you to cancel the PO. If you don’t cancel the PO, when it is received it will go into inventory.
If the sales order release is marked “Buy To Order”, then you can’t close it until you’ve removed the link to the connected Purchase Order.
A Sales Order Release will be closed automatically when it is shipped. A Sales Order Line will close when all releases have been shipped or closed, and a Sales Order will close when all Lines have been shipped or closed.
