We have COA segments that are optional that should be mandatory. Any “approved” way of converting them. Not a maintainable field natively.
@jgiese.wci I had something that was “not possible” with my segments and there was a data fix to reset our GL. It took 10 hours, but worked, so I would bet your are not the first to need this.

May be a work around, you can select the segment as mandatory in the Account segment values.
@gpayne for kicks I did test just jamming Mandatory on my COA segments in SQL and it did work preventing me from creating an account without all 3 of our segments. That with lots of testing will be my last resort knowing there is a level of success there.
