Does anyone have a solution - workaround for a situation where the company config SMTP servert is to an external provider and there is no user and password setup capability in the email tab/window for 8.03?

We don't have a redirect, relay, trusted relathionship, authentication - inhouse email server scenario.

How are companies working around this challenge?
Special config/redirect w/ user/pass setup? If yes, how was this done, what does it look like?

This is indeed problematic.. Especially when companies are using user/pass to avoid spam/bouncing and don't have an email server.

Ideas?

Thank you.
Create an inhouse relay server.

Any computer running windows Server 2k, 03, or 08 has this capability.

1- Set it up to accept mail without authentication from 1 server, and one
server only, your Epicor Server, by IP address not server name.
2- On your relay server, you are able to put in your username and password
for your external email provider so it can forward the mail to the end
location.

This will forward all mail received from the epicor server to your relay
server to your external provider with all appropriate permissions etc.

If you are really concerned about SPAM or malware causing a problem, then
you can always set up some strange, obscure port number for receiving SMTP
emails on your relay server so that you don't need to worry about that
malware or bot using 25 or 587 in it's default settings to take advantage of
your open port, and the fact that only your epicor server would be allowed
to connect in the first place means you would only need to worry about
malware on that machine, which in general I think is a computer with a very
low risk of getting malware of any kind in the first place.
