Company email setup 8.0

Mark,

I believe there are two different settings which control two
different functions that need to be set:

1. Auto Email (Global Alerts) uses the settings under the Company ->
Email Tab.

2. On the Vantage menu under File -> Send -> Record by Email or when
you get a dialog box containing an error that you can email, use the
settings in the .mfgsys file. Locate of add the entry <SmtpServer
value="MYMAILSERVER"> in the <usersettings> section. This is the one
that I believe is causing you problems. I thought you could also set
the port, but I didn't see it in our file. My guess is that it is
using the default SMTP port 25.

As far as the Email Link Port... I'm not exactly sure what that is
for, but if you set the above, your problem should be resolved.

Hope this helps.

Cheers!

I'm sure this is easy - and it sounds like I don't want to call support...

;-)

In the Company setup (8.0), under the email tab, there's "Email Link Port".
Exactly which port number do they want? The appserver port number, the
database port number? The taskAgent port number?

We get the error:

"Failed to connect to SMTP server; email attempt aborted. Please confirm the
SMTP setting in your XXX.Mfgsys AppSettings file.

I have gone to our Vantage server and am able to connect to the SMTP
(Exchange) server, so it is not a relaying issue.

Thanks,

Mark W.
I'm on 6.1 so this may not be the same for 8.0, but we were told it
just needs to be any unused port #. We are using 5001.

In 8.0 you are to use any port over 7000, we use 7777

I'm sure this is easy - and it sounds like I don't want to call
support...

;-)

In the Company setup (8.0), under the email tab, there's "Email Link
Port".
Exactly which port number do they want? The appserver port number, the
database port number? The taskAgent port number?

We get the error:

"Failed to connect to SMTP server; email attempt aborted. Please confirm
the
SMTP setting in your XXX.Mfgsys AppSettings file.

I have gone to our Vantage server and am able to connect to the SMTP
(Exchange) server, so it is not a relaying issue.

Thanks,

Mark W.

I opened a command window on the Vantage server (Start | Run | cmd) and did a:

C:\>netstat

This showed all used port numbers. I saw that the range that Gerard suggests
and 5001 were both available. I tried both and still no luck.

So I browsed to C:\Client80\client\config and looked in the local settings
file: XXX.mfgsys, where XXX = train, pilot, test, default, ...

Under the <usersettings> element, I found that the last element did not
contain the smtp server name.

<SmtpServer value=" " />

I added that in and it worked like a charm.

I appreciate the response and I hope this helps others.

Mark W.
