Connected Users (V5.1)

The licenses are eaten when a user abnormally ends there connection, so when
a PC crashes it may or may not eat a license. At times we have done this on
a weekly basis. Sometimes we can go a month without running the license
reset. Basically the report builder will tell you how many licenses are
locked and you have to make the determination. Normally we listen for the
overhead pages for people to exit Vantage if they are not using it, that's
our indication something is wrong.

Thanks Paul,
how often do you have to do this?

We are on Vantage 5.0 and have licenses that get "eaten" by Vantage often.
We called Vantage support and they sent us a report builder that showed
which licenses are locked up by Vantage. When we start getting Max users
we
run a licnese reset program that Vantage support gave us. You have to get
everyone out of Vantage to run this. Simply restarting Vantage will not
clear the liceses.

Here's a strange one. In my connected users panel, I have user ID's
appearing with server sessions.
Then, these user ID's are counting against my license count. Right now, the
system is taking 8
sessions away from me, and I am getting the dreaded "maximum number of users
exceeded" message.
Is this happening to anyone else?
regards,

We use this at least once a week. I have a short cut on my desktop to
the licreset program. I don't kick the users out when I do it. Haven't
seen any adverse effects. We are in 5.1.
Granted we are only on 5.0, but this became such a problem for us that I set
it as a task to run 3 times a day. No problems here.

Hi,

We are on 5.0 also but don't have any kind of trouble like this. My Vantage
server (Windows Server 2000) had been up and running without a reboot for
131 days as of today and Vantage have been running since that time without
being restarted. The only time I ever have trouble with extra users is when
we have power failures and some workstations are shutdown without logging
out of Vantage. Are you sure your users are logging out of Vantage before
they log off/power down?

We started to run this with users logged in, but Vantage support scared the
crap out of us about it. They are saying you can "corrupt the database" by
running license reset with users logged in. Just FYI
