Connected Users

This subject has been beaten to death, but I just want to add this:
If you have any question if Vantage has "eaten" any of your licenses do
this:
Run a report builder report against the Vantage.LicUsers table.
Include fields UserNum, Connect-Device, DCDUserID, Name.
If you get a "CON:" returned from the Connect-Device column, you
have a
session tied up by Vantage.

I've got a 'normal' user that cannot log in this morning. It says 'exceeding
number of users.' It thinks she is logging in twice. She is not showing up as a
user via ProMon and we have not reached our maximum number of users, but she is
showing up in Vantage as a Connected User with a type of SERV. All other users
show up with the REMC type. Why and how would this user get the SERV type? This
happened to her a while ago but I didn't think anything of it. I'll shutdown the
database and bring it back up to fix it but I'm more curious about the
underlying cause.

Marty,
check in the user account to see if the "allow multiple sessions"
flag is unchecked.
I've had instances where that caused problems.

The box is not checked. I just stopped and restarted the database so we're back to normal but I'm still wondering how she would show up with that SERV (server??) type and
not the normal REMC (remote connection).

I've been having this problem off and on for about the last 3 versions of Vantage but, it's gotten worse recently. I have had Vantage account names attached to progress server brokers which is the most common, APW's, and BIW's which just started recently. I have not got an answer out of Vantage on this. One possible workaround that I have found, is to allow the user that can't login to run multiple Vantage sessions. Some of the time the problem will resolve itself but it may take several days. Then go back to that account and uncheck the multiple session box. Scott Hearn - Pro-Fab, Inc.

Marty,

There is a License reset routine you can get from Epicor. It is quick and
frees any locked up licenses.

This may not be your issue here, but I thought I would throw it into the mix
anyway.

I can't say that I've seen any users with any other type but REMC. But I
have had users where their machine will lock up and when they reboot, it
says they are trying to log on twice. The work around for us is to have the
user log in using the data collection user ID and password. Then select the
menu "options" - "change user ID" and log in as yourself. This seems to
allow it to go in. If the user logs into data collection and then exits
without changing user ID, it doesn't remove the lock.

Marty,
Which operating system is this user working with?
We had the same problem - and it was always WindowsXPPro workstations.

Marty,

I've run into the same thing several times with two different users. I
usually check the box to allow multiple sessions and then go back and clean
this up after the server re-boots the next time. I don't have any idea why
this happens. I was going to call tech support the next time, but it hasn't
happened for a couple weeks.

This happened to me all the time as well. It was a little frustrating
to keep having to reboot the server. I have developed a utility that
resolves this issue. I am pretty sure it would help in this case
however please contact me for further clarification.
