Consignment Inventory

Jasper,

If you mark the bin NON_NETTABLE it will not count it as part of your
inventory. In help under Warehouse Bin Maintenance - the definition
states

"Parts contained in a non-nettable bin will not be included in your on-hand
inventory quantities"

I hope this answers your question.

How does it not show up as part of the regular inventory? When MRP
runs, I don't want it to count that inventory as parts on hand. If
it does than we would never have a suggestions to make any new parts.

Happy New Year everyone!

We have a supplier that we have a consignment inventory for steel plate
pieces. We receive shipments in quantities of 78. We do not have to pay for
the material until we ship the finished product. I have tried several ways in
Vantage to show the receipt and match to an invoice, but the quantities will
not be the same. I would like to keep track of actual receipts (78 pcs) in
Vantage some way. I can do a PO line for the amount of items we shipped and
the vendor will invoice us for, receive it, and match the invoice, but I
never have a running count in Vantage of the "raw" product receipts. Any
help or advice will be greatly appreciated.

What about creating a separate part # (0 cost) and doing quantity
adjustments for receipts. You could use the packing slip # from the vendor
in the reference section of the quantity adjustment screen for trace ability
purposes. You could then do a negative adjustment when you set up and
receive the PO line.

I was sent a document from Epicor called Consignment Inventory.
This providede us with the following procedure.
Receive the item using Quantity Adjustment module to show item in stock,

The reason Code and reference boxes are used to show Supplier, Del Note
No. & PO No.
The Purchase Line Item is changed to reference Consignment Stock and is
therefore no longer a specified Part which affects Time Phased etc.
At end of month, or specified Time period, do a Receipt Entry for Qty
used. Then when the invoice arrives you will have a Receipt to match it
to, plus the PO closes.

Good Luck

Any ideas on how we can manage this?

Jasper,
what we do is create a special warehouse and keep those balances there
at zero cost.
works for us.

Jasper,

Yes there is. We create a separate warehouse for these parts and we also
make sure the Bin is Marked Yes to Non-nettable. If non-nettable is marked
this will not affect your inventory count. When you are shipping from that
location, your shipping just needs to pick that warehouse and bin.

This works VERY well for us.

Jasper,

Create a consignment warehouse.

Based on the usage report, sell from that warehouse.

Vantage doesn't allow for planning by warehouse mins, but you can
create a BAM that alerts you when the customer depletes inventory
below a set point which would be your notice to ship more. (The
only min used by the system is the one on the Inventory screen,
which is for all warehouses/bins for the company.)

Make sure that you MOH quantity for the part allows for transit time
and minimum inventory at all locations. Setting the warehouse to
non-nettable removes those quantities from planning, which has good
and bad points. If you put in a forecast for the customer to help
with planning, a non-nettable warehouse/bin clouds the MRP
suggestions.

It isn't clean, but this can be done with some thought. (I would be
cautious about the previous suggestion to set the cost at zero.)

If there are any questions, feel free to contact me off line.

Jasper,

I'm not sure about the suggestion to go to zero costs.

Setting the bin to nonnettable would hide the parts, but that
creates other planning challenges.

Alternative:
- Increase the MOH for the part to include the min in consignment
as well as accounting for transit time.

- Set a min for the consignment bin and create a BAM to alert you
when the customer pulls go below that so you can ship more.

- If the total in consignment and "on hand" go below the MOH, MRP
will suggestion you make more. Otherwise you just ship from "on
hand".

- Consider entering a forecast for the customer so MRP will see
that demand. Otherwise, the "we pulled X qty" report will be a
surprise to the system and require higher min's to make this work.

Feel free to check with me off line if you've got questions.

We purchased the multi-plant module and use TOs to move inventory to the
remote site. We have 16 consignment locations throughout the US and each
of those has been entered in the remote plant as it's own warehouse. I
even customized the TO entry form to include a "To Warehouse" field that
selects via a combo box.

The remote plant has a it's own GL so segregating financials between in
house and field is accommodated in the canned reports.

On another note, I'm pretty sure that 803 has a consignment function
built in although you probably have to purchase multi-plant anyway to
get it to work.
