Cost Method Blank Title 103202

We now have the parts showing up as FIFO in cost adjustment, but what fields do we need to fill out to perform the adjustment for FIFO? Do we need to do anything with the FIFO date, seq, sub fields and what fields do we fill below?

We are currently using Epicor 9.05.603 and we are setup for average cost. We are currently re-evaluating average cost versus standard cost. Once there have been transactions against a part number, can the costing method be changed? It looks like it is grayed out in the Part Maintenance screen, but I thought I would ask the question anyway.

I don't know of an easy way. We did this in reverse not terribly long ago.

We ended up using two scripts to do it all. The first to go through and set
the cost method through the BO. A second to go straight to the DB and change
the method, bypassing the business logic.

I've done a few manually.
The cost method is greyed out if there is inventory.

So, I do a qty adjustment to zero, change the cost method, fix costs and then do another qty adjustment.

If you have a lot of them... ouch.

Cooner is correct. The field is grayed out due to inventory and not necessarily transactions. At least this is, and has been, the case prior to and including 8.03.409C, which is what we are running.

We are on 9.05.603 and have the DMT tool. We recently changed all of our costs to average. The DMT will do this. I beleive if done manually the inventory level will need to be zeroed out, the cost method change on both the part detail and/or plant tabs and then the inventory is added back in at the correct quantity.

Good luck.

We are on 9.04.507A, and my CFO wants to change from Avg to either Std or FIFO (not decided which yet).

1. Your message below indicates that the DMT will do this in a single pass, rather than set inventory to zero, change cost method, set inventory back (3 passes). I just want to confirm that is so.

2. FIFO is greyed out in the Cost Adjustment screen. Do I need to add values (via either DMT or SQL update) or will the system calculate them for me?

We did this last October (but in 8.03) We used Service Connect first to zero out the inventory via ADJ-QTY, then to change cost method, then to reimport the quantities. Service Connect isn't fast but it left a great audit trail. And as we applied this to other companies, we could use the same workflows

>is there a way to change the cost method on a part?
Business logic requires Onhand to be zero before changing costmethod.

Before going live, I did mass updates of quantities and PartTran records in V8 but it was fairly involved. It turned out to take time than it saved.

After going live, I use cycle counts if I want set multiple parts onhand qtys to zero. It's pretty fast. Once the quantities are zero, a mass update of costmethod is easy and pretty safe.

You need to remove the inventory for the part(s) in order to change the costing method.

We just had a similar issue when a client decided to change the cost method after we loaded the test environment for inventory count and cost validation.
We used the DMT to reduce all inventory to zero, then another update to change the cost method.
The inventory load had to be recreated because the switch was to FIFO.

For a small quantity of parts, or if you do not have the DMT cycle counting the parts out of inventory, adjust the costing method, cycle count the parts back into inventory.

Subject: [Vantage] Cost Method

After there is UOMs, Inventory, Etc. is there a way to change the cost method on a part?

[Non-text portions of this message have been removed]
here are the steps I followed.

Identified the parts that required changing from AVG to FIFO.
Created a DMT template to zero out the on-hands.
Created a DMT template to change the parts from AVG to FIFO.

When I go part entry for a part that has been changed it now shows as FIFO.
When I go to cost adjustment it shows as AVG yet?

I put a PO in for one of the parts at one price, and another PO in for the same part at a different price and it is still averaging them. What am I doing wrong should I not see FIFO seqs now?! GAH!?
