Cost Update

Risky though it is, we do it thru Access and an update query to the cost set table, roll up
costs within Vantage and post from the Cost Set.

Please respond to
vantage

I have to update the standard cost of several hundred parts in Vantage.
I have a spreadsheet with the new costs broken down into labor burden
and material. I would like to find an automated way of "dumping" these
costs into Vantage. Can anyone tell me if that is possible and where to
start?

Thanks

Hi,

I did this a few weeks ago, saved a lot of typing, and it propagates the
vantage system with the new cost transactions that you wouldn't get if
you just "slammed" the data into the Part table.

1.) Downloaded the costs from Vantage

2.) downloaded macro express (http://www.macros.com/download.htm )

3.) Built a spreadsheet (partwcost20050318Query2005.xls ) listing
the part number, the five cost elements (material, labor, burden, etc.)
and a "Reference column" which was "2005 Cost roll - ######" where
###### is the part number. You only want to do parts where the cost
will change, as the system won't let you change the cost to the existing
cost.

4.) Opened the spreadsheet, logged into vantage, opened the cost
entry screen, positioned the cursor on the part number.

5.) Ran the macro.

Note: definitely do this on your test account first. If the keystrokes
get out of sequence you could theoretically load some bad data.
