Costed BOM report

As an additional issue, we've been struggling with part costing as
it relates to typecode and also to cost method.

I'm sure the reason you do not have a cost associated with the part
being purchased is that you do not yet have a PO (with cost)
transaction against this part.

Also, we have tried to monitor standard costed parts for their
actual build cost to see if the standard cost needs to be adjusted.
However, Vantage does not track STD, LAST, AVG costs separately.
Once you pick a cost method as STD and you build the part, then the
LAST and STD both will equal the STD cost set against the part. The
LAST cost DOES NOT represent the last actual build cost. We have
requested that this change but still waiting.

To all,
I am trying to understand where the costed BOM gets its information.
We have a part (call it part A, cost $15) that we manufactured in
house for a little while, but we now buy it on the outside (for $12).
It is still flagged as manufactured. When we put part A on a new BOM
(for part B), the costed BOM (for part B) shows what it cost us to
make part A ($15). When we run the production detail report on part B,
it shows us what it cost us to buy part A ($12). The concern here is,
how can we use the costed BOM when it pulls "old" costing information?

We are on Vantage 5.1.

Thanks in advance for your help!

Andrew
I believe that because part has a type code = manufactured, it pulls
all the information from PartRev table in Costed BOM report. Can you
change the typecode?

Thanks for your thoughts.
We tried changing the typecode, and the costed BOM for part A does
change. In this case, the cost went to zero. When we ran the costed
BOM for part B, it still showed the cost of part A to be $15.

It seems to me that a part's cost should be one number. Why would it
matter if it is purchased or manufactured? We use average costing, so
it seems to me that the cost should be the average of the manufactured
and purchased costs.

So the answer that Vantage provides to the question, "What does this
part cost" is "It depends...".

Am I right?
