CR parttags.rpt - assigning a counter to a label

Lynn, this one's got me, too. I'm not sure how to 'un-do' the
multi-column format checkbox.

Depending on what you're trying to do with these tags and how you're
printing them, it may actually be better to re-create with a new BAQ
report.

If you try to print directly to your 4x6 label printer, Crystal will
figure out and retain the page settings and adjust the design and
preview windows accordingly. From this point, in CR, adjust the size of
the columns in Section Expert and it will fill as many labels as
possible with those constraints. For example, while in the PartTags.rpt
file, go to FILE --> Page Setup and in the bottom of that window choose
your 4x6 printer. You'll see immediately the change in CR.

OK, I see it now. Once I changed the detail width to 5" and the paper
size to Letter, it worked slick!

But, how do I get 2 more labels to print down on the same page?
The 'number of details' fields on the Layout tab are not modifiable.

Also, the checkbox for "format with multiple columns" is greyed-out.
How do I turn this feature off if I plan to use single (4x6) label stock
instead of a letter-size page?

Do I need to totally recreate the label in a new report? Once the
layout is setup in a report, is it too late to change it?

And thanks for the suggestion about the running total on the PartNum
field. I will try that also.

You have been a big help to me, Vic. Thanks!

Lynn

Vantage 8.03.404
Crystal Reports 11.5

When I open the Epicor-provided parttags.rpt, there is an exact copy
of the tag with a blue background to the right of the report design.
Can anyone tell me why this copy exists and what it is for?

Also, I would like to add a counter field to this label to aid in
uniquely identifing box numbers which are packed for a job. We do
not want to use Vantage serial numbers.

I would like the user to enter a Parameter for the beginning counter
number.

Is such a counting feature available in Crystal?

The only counter that I know of in Crystal is Page numbering. In
order to accomplish this, should I try to get Crystal to allow the
user to enter a beginning page number as a Parameter and use the page
number as my counter?

Thanks.

Lynn
Lynn,

The "exact copy of the tag w/a blue background" is because this tag is
formatted to multiple columns.

Go into Section Expert on this RPT. Look at the Details Section
w/Section Expert. Notice the bottom right checkbox entitled Format with
multiple columns.

Confusing, yes.

For counting, utilize a Running Total in CR. Have it tally a unique
value such as the PartNum field.
