Creating a BOM for a manufactured part

In V6.1, you can create a BOM for a part like what you've described.
The part should be flagged as Purchased instead of Manufactured so the
MPR process will respond to demands with purchase suggestions instead
of job suggestions. We do this all the time for parts that we
normally purchase, but occasionally make due to lead times or small
quantities.

Now, getting a printable version of the BOM to send to your supplier
will be a little trickier. There have been others who have recently
been interested in a similar report for various reasons. Depending on
your version, others might have some suggestions if you need to do
that as well.

In Vantage can we generate a BOM for a manufactured part that is built
by a 3rd party vendor? Here's the scenario. We sell this part, we
need to send the builder a BOM so they can purchase the components.
We do not buy the components directly, we only pay for the final cost
of the part. Any ideas?

I am assuming this is true for Vantage but in every other ERP system I have
used, a BOM explosion stops once you get to a buy part. You should be able to
add the BOM and MRP will not explode past the buy level and the lower costs
will not get used in a cost roll up. I would check it out in a test database
to be sure but I'd be very surprised if you found differently.

Purchased parts generally cannot have BOM's in Vantage.

If we need to purchase a finished part from a 3rd party, we define the
product through a CAD drawing. This drawing will include the final product
we are purchasing with an exploded BOM specifying the subassembly parts.
The drawing is attached to the purchased part in Vantage and sent with the
PO to the vendor.
