We are ordering paint as a kit. The kit includes two part numbers (paint and catalyst) that we place under a kit number. Is there a way to create a kit number that allows the system to then use the two sub-components to deduct usage?
Epicor does support purchasing a kit and kits cannot have inventory.
You can buy both components and sell them together as a kit or use them from inventory in a job.

We would use them in a job. So we cannot have a kit represented as an inventory item? The product I am challenged with is a kit of paint, where it includes the paint and the catalyst (two separate items).

Cost of the items would be based on their unit of measure, just as the consumption would be.
nope… cannot have a single item in inventory that is a “kit”. By definition, a KIT is NOT stockable. The Kit is made of more than one item, but always stocked separately.
Also, in Epicor, Kits are really only used on the SALES side of the business. It is really a “Sales Kit”.
You CAN have a “Phantom BOM” which can be treated as a kit. You can specify the “recipe” in each kit part number:
Phantom1 = Part1 qty 1 + Part2 Qty 1.25
Phantom2 = Part1 qty 1 + Part2 Qty 1.5
Phantom3 = Part3 qty 1 + Part2 Qty 1
but in all the above, you would still purchase Part1, part2, and part3 as three separate components, and they are stocked separately, but issued as a set.
Perhaps the supplier would sell it to you as a kit. You’d have one part that always consisted of the subcomponents.
For example,epoxy resin and hardener are always bought in sets of 32 oz can of resin and 8 oz can of hardener. Your one part number would be for one can of each. Counting the QOH would require you have both for one “unit” of the PartNum.
If you every needed to use one of the components, make a job that consumes one kit, makes the desired component and a co-part(the other component).
