Crystal 8.0 Web component & Parameter fields

David,
It's not that Crystal 8.5 is supposed to be included WITH Vantage 5.2, but each version of Vantage is compatible with a certain version of Crystal Reports Designer (for the purpose of customizing your Vantage reports). In this case, Vantage 5.2 requires that you purchase Crystal Reports 8.5 if you plan to customize your Vantage reports. For Vantage 5.1 you needed Crystal Reports 8.0.

Dan,
That feature works great in Version 8.5, which Seagate renamed Crystal
Enterprise. When using Date ranges, for instance, you can get the drop-down
calendar using a Web Report. There are some other nice features like that
for Parameters in 8.5, plus it's a lot faster than Crystal 8.0. There is a
document in the Egroups list showing the differences between 8.0 and 8.5. I
believe the next release of Vantage (5.2) will utilize Crystal 8.5 as well.
Can anyone confirm that? I requested Vantage 5.2 last week. They say it
ships each Friday to those who request it, so maybe next week I'll have a
copy of Vantage 5.2.

anyway
to see the field explorer (drop down calendar) when accessing the report
via
the web component. We are using I.E 5.5 and suspect that I am using the
default active x report viewer. Will a different viewer give me this

No, the drop down calendar was supposed to be added to v8.5 of the ActiveX
and Java controls. The functionality has now been slated for the v9 release
of the controls.

If Vantage 5.2 requires Crystal 8.5 I will be very bummed. I use
Distributed Reports extensively and this will not work with 8.5 (tried it
and went back to 8.0). If I am forced to start doing web services
internally for web reports instead of distributed that will be an expense
(and a lot of extra work) I was not planning on until well after we go to
5.2. So I too would be interested in confirmation of this.

Thanks Troy. I initially installed 8.5 when it was first release, and
quickly removed it due to some unexpected behavior (which I can't remember)
. Let me restate my question. I have created an O.D.B.C report using the SQL
92 driver. The report contains a parameter field with a date value that I am
using in a record selection filter. When I access this report through the
web component and it asks me to enter my parameter values it does not give
me the ability to pull down a calendar. What release of 8.5 are you running?
Ted's post earlier suggest that it's not out yet

Thanks

Todd,
I don't see why you couldn't still use Crystal 8.0 for your distributed reports in 5.2. I imagine you may need Crystal 8.5 to actually edit the Vantage reports, but my common sense (which isn't always right) says you should be able to have a machine with CR 8.0 installed that could still package up your reports for distribution. I would hope so at least.

Speaking of V 5.2 ...

Do we have anyone who is in the process of installing it?

It'd be nice to get some early reviews of stability, bugs, or other gotchas
in the install process.

Does anyone know the difference between 9.1C and 9.1D of Progress and why
would EPICOR change to the new release in the middle of the roll out?

Speaking of V 5.2 ...

Do we have anyone who is in the process of installing it?

It'd be nice to get some early reviews of stability, bugs, or other
gotchas
in the install process.

Does anyone know the difference between 9.1C and 9.1D of Progress and why
would EPICOR change to the new release in the middle of the roll out?

Vantage 5.2 will use Crystal 8.5.

The current release of 5.2 will be on Progress 9.1C, in mid August it will
ship to everyone with Progress 9.1D. Check out the Epicor support page
under the Technical Notes for more details.

Dan,
That feature works great in Version 8.5, which Seagate renamed
Crystal
Enterprise. When using Date ranges, for instance, you can get the
drop-down
calendar using a Web Report. There are some other nice features like that
for Parameters in 8.5, plus it's a lot faster than Crystal 8.0. There is
a
document in the Egroups list showing the differences between 8.0 and 8.5.
I
believe the next release of Vantage (5.2) will utilize Crystal 8.5 as
well.
Can anyone confirm that? I requested Vantage 5.2 last week. They say it
ships each Friday to those who request it, so maybe next week I'll have a
copy of Vantage 5.2.

I have written a report using a date type parameter field. Is there
anyway
to see the field explorer (drop down calendar) when accessing the
report
via
the web component. We are using I.E 5.5 and suspect that I am using
the
default active x report viewer. Will a different viewer give me this
functionality?

Dan,
Your web server is the key element in this subject. CR 8.0 came packaged with the "Crystal Web Component", as they called it then. When CR 8.5 came out, the Web Component was stripped out and 'enhanced' and renamed Crystal Enterprise. It is on a completely separate CD and has to be installed on the web server machine. I actually use Crystal 8.0 for Report design (to be in sync with Vantage 5.1), but use the Crystal Enterprise for running our web reports -- so the web server machine actually has Crystal Designer 8.5 on it and Crystal Enterprise (don't know the version number). It has always given me the drop down calendars on Date parameters since it was installed over a year and a half ago (when CR 8.5 was first released). I don't think it is a new feature -- that is if we're talking about the same thing. We also use IE 5.5, so it will be using Active X, I believe.

The main drawback for many companies of Crystal Enterprise is the 5 user license limit. We have 60 PC's and about 70 Crystal Web reports and we rarely run out of our 5 (concurrent) user limit. I asked Seagate Tech support once what the 5 user limit 'rules' were, and I was told that it means that 5 users can't be accessing the database at the same moment in time. Once the report is on someone's screen, then it won't take up a license -- only during the few moments when the data is being refreshed for the report.

Thanks

Dan Shallbetter

According to the What's New for 5.2, it requires Crystal 8.5 to modify
standard reports in Vantage.

-Todd C.
The dll's related to Crystal that are distributed with Vantage 5.2 are
indeed version 8.5. Todd, checking with our tech group they state that you
can distribute reports just like in 8.0 without using the web services
functionality but there are a few files you have to download in order to do
that. Please call the 800 number and speak with a tech rep for the details.
