Crystal 8.5 Sales Order - Adding External Data

Thanks for the reply. Well, I looked for a log file and didn't find any
error log. I am at a loss as to how to diagnose the problem, especially
since I am not all that familiar with crystal. When I run the report
from within crystal it runs fine, and I am on the same machine as when I
try to run it form within vantage, but there it fails. Last night I had
gone to crystal support site and tried to find an answer, but didn't
find anything. I did download and install the latest service pack, but
it made no difference. I am stuck, so now I am working on an
alternative of printing this from Access instead, linking back to the
vantage data. That seems to be working better, but has the downside
that the users need to go into the access location to print it and also
doesn't export to rtf cleanly like crystal does, so I would still like
to get the crystal working form vantage, but I am really at a loss and
need to get this going ASAP, you know how that goes. Thanks.

I gave this a little more thought. I had similar issues with VB stuff
linking to access quite a while ago. I think what is happening is
Vantage is suppressing the error message - it would be in the CR error
log if anywhere, methinks.

There were all sorts of issues. I ended up creating an ODBC connection
to the Access database, as opposed to a file local to the Crystal
Reports exe. This got me a step closer, where I realized I was being
prompted for password - the database was totally open and insecure, so
shouldn't have needed a non-existant password. This turned out to be Jet
4.0 needing updated. Ensure the client computer has current Access
version and drivers (jet). Worthwhile to mention that while researching
this, some people had said there is some complication to "passing" the
password through the top level report and into the sublevel report. I
seem to recall that there was basic auth stuff being passed to access
irregardless of password set or not. That may just be a
Crystal<-VB->Access issue though.

Once I got it working, it worked just fine.

Your issue may be totally different, but it sounds at least related.

If you figure it out, please relay the info, as I am thinking of doing
something similar with C of Cs, RoHS, Certs, etc. for finish types.

Thanks for your reply. Crystal is pointing to an access database on our
network. It is a database our engineers use for entering part
specifications. I don't get any error message at all, but I will look
and see if there is a log file somewhere. Thanks for the response.

Is Crystal linking an ODBC shared Access database, or are you pointing
it to a database on a network share?

Perhaps in error logs somewhere? Sounds like either missing links or
access password denial.

Subject: [Vantage] Crystal 8.5 Sales Order - Adding External Data

Happy Holidays Everyone,

I am trying to add external data to my Crystal Sales Order. The
external data is stored in a separate microsoft access database.
Basically, there's a bunch of part specific information stored there
that we need to print on our Sales Order Acknowledgement that we send to
our customer.

I went about this by creating a crystal subreport for the access data.
That was very easy b/c crystal has built-in tools to link to an access
database. Then, I linked the sub-report to the Sales order acknowledge
form. Seemed to work fine and when previewing thru crystal the data
comes in and report looks great.

However, when I then go into vantage to print the new sales order form,
the screen flashes and then just get a blank gray box. The old Sales
order form will still work, but this new one with the subreport won't
come up. I feel like I must be missing a step or something. Has anyone
done anything like this or have any ideas?

Thanks for any advice!
-Sarah
