Crystal & ODBC

I've used Crystal for years and as late as Version 7, the standard edition
could be made to connect to an ODBC driver, so I assumed that this was true
with version 8, but apparently I was wrong. So, I looked on the Seagate
Software web site and the standard edition doesn't connect to some ODBC
sources. This is new to me. Here is the URL so you can check
http://www.seagatesoftware.com/products/crystalreports/editions/content.asp

Let me know if you need anymore help,

Can anyone confirm whether it is necessary to have Crystal Professional
when connecting to Vantage via the ODBC.

Also those of you who have upgraded from Version 7 to 8, do any changes
need to be made to existing Crystal reports supplied with Vantage?

Thanks in advance,
Sophie
It isn't necessary to have Crystal Professional when connecting to Vantage
via ODBC. The standard product will work fine. However, for the slight
increase in price I would buy the professional version. It has lots of
great features, that even though you may not use them today, they will help
out in the future.

In that case can anyone explain why the following error occurred when I
tried to create a new Custom Report using the SQL/ODBC. I selected the
ODBC - Progress Remote OID and having said OK to the Logon to Progress
the following message appeared:
Seagate Crystal Reports: Database Error
Can not connect to this Data Source. This is the Crystal Reports
Standard edition. Please upgrade to Crystal reports Pro in order to
connect to it.

The ODBC says the Connection has been established!
