Our Crystal guru left the company. We are trying to use the Notes
field on the Data Collection entry screen to track gauge serial
numbers. As the workers end activities they can scan the barcodes
of any gauges they use into this field. What I need to do is create
a report to query by note and then refine by a date range. I
created the report in Crystal (Vantage 5.2) and used the table
called LbrLoad. I inserted the LaborNote field and a few others,
job, oper, sequence and date. When I preview the report there is no
data in it. How can I have it query all labor entries and filter by
the note field? I have ODBC setup and when I can verify that the
database connection is working. I remember in the past how we had
to open a PO for the POform report to display that data. I believe
it pulled the data from c:\vntgwk52 directory but I need to search
the whole database and not just one record.

Thanks for any help,

Bruce,

Simple answer, if it was me, I would build this in Report Builder.
Crystal 8.X does not handle Memo fields well, and this may be your
problem. If you use Report Builder, this should overcome the problem.

If you have to use Crystal, you will need to truncate the notes field to
something Crystal can deal with.

Hope this helps.

Aaron,

I used the proper table and now I get all the labor edit records.
Now I need to filter them down by a wildcard search in the note
field and a date. I think I filter through Report, Select Expert.
When I try this the LaborNote field is not in the list. Any ideas
why not?

Bruce,

To correct that fact, Report Builder does not go away until Sonoma
(Vantage 7.0).

We are on 6.0 and using it all the time (I am changing it over little by
little, but the reason I suggest RB for this is that I am told Sonoma
will use Crystal 10 and that handles memo fields).

I would agree with Sarah...

If I were building this, I would connect Company to LaborDtl, Filter on
Company="yourcompany" and ActiveTrans = false. Then I would filter on
LaborNote "matches" "*yourserialnumber*" (the ** are important).

Now update the "yourserialnumber" portion to the serial number you want
to track.

This should give you the results you are looking for.

This is the reason I would build this in Report Builder. Crystal is not
able to use a memo (blob) field in a calculation therefore it is
unavailable. This will work in RB though.

Notes Field

Aaron,

I used the proper table and now I get all the labor edit records.
Now I need to filter them down by a wildcard search in the note
field and a date. I think I filter through Report, Select Expert.
When I try this the LaborNote field is not in the list. Any ideas
why not?
