Thanks for the help Jim. I may have try a different approach. Since the UPS
database is a Access DB, perhaps I try to recreate the UPS report in
Crystal.

That is what I meant. I am certain this has worked for me in the past.
Failing that, if you have the Crystal report distribution expert installed,
you can create a copy of the packing slip report and distribute that copy to
the shipping client. When shipping runs the normal report from Vantage, they
can cancel without printing and then run the copied report (distribution
process creates an executable that will retain its own preferences - printer
setup is one). I have two shipping label reports that use the data generated
by packing slips that the shipping clerk opens in the morning and leaves
open the whole day. One prints labels to a specific printer; the second to
another. In all the shipping clerk has 5 printers he can use, 4 of which are
loaded with special forms - bill of lading, several styles of shipping
labels and such. All works smoothly. If you don't have the report
distribution expert, you can download from Crystal Decisions web site.
Unfortunately I don't have the URL handy.
Hope this helps

Not certain I understand. I did change the printer NEC 1440 in the report
to
match the name of the local default printer out in shipping NEC 1440. I
then
changed the default on the client to the Network printer HP5000. When I
run
a packing slip it defaults to the HP5000. instead of the printer defined
in
the report. Did I miss something?

Dan,
I believe you could add a second printer on the client for its local
printer
so that the printer name matches the network printer name you use when you
setup the report. My understanding is that when you set the printer in
Crystal, it will try to use a printer of the same name on the client at
runtime. If the names don't match, it will go to the default printer.
Seems to me that RB does the same thing.

Subject: [Vantage] Crystal report default output by client
I recently upgraded by shipping and receiving client with UPS World Ship
version 4.0. This Win98 client is setup with a local printer loaded with
pre-printed packing slips as the default printer. The UPS software when
printing out the end of day shipment detail report keeps replacing the
network printer defined under preferences with the local default
printer.
UPS tech support tells me that this is by design. Is it possible to
change
the Crystal report packslip.rpt to default to the local printer on the
shipping client only when the report is requested from that client? This
would then enable me to set the network printer as the default printer
on
the client. I have thoroughly confused myself reading about Active X in
my
Crystal reference manual. I am running Crystal 8.0 professional with
Vantage 5.0. Perhaps there is another easier solution? Help!!
Thanks
