Crystal Reports [bayes]

You are right. I was thinking of the related operation field. Sorry.

John,

Are you using any report filters on either the main or the subreport? What
section of the main report did you place the subreport into? Are you linking
the subreport to the main report? What are the results that your report
returns? error messages?

The only filters on the Job reports have been for closed jobs or
completed line.

For example, My Shop Forman wants to know what Jobs, associated
operations, assemblies and material for that job are remaining open. to
start, I create a blank report and attach the ODBC database(s) of the
JobOper and JobMtl files. I then insert the jobnum file, the index in
both files, the Seqnum and OperSeq from the JobOper file. I select
records by JobClosed="false". That works. I add any field from the
JobMtl and re-run the query and get no records as a result.

I've done this before (not on Progress databases) and can get it to
work, but I'm missing something simple. Vantage Product Support is
stumped and I have asked for their Crystal guru, but he hasn't called
back.

John,

I typically design my reports using a one to many join for faster
processing, or the table I am using for my primary filter. I would start
with the Jobhead file first, it sounds like using all left joins should work
for your report. I am not a Crystal guru, but send it to me directly and
I'll take a quick peak at it in the morning if you'd like.

John,

I would look carefully at the links you used to the JobMtl Table. If
you get no records after adding a field from that table I would bet
that its not properly linked. What fields are you linking on?

JobOper.Company ->JobMtl.Company
JobOper.JobNum ->JobMtl.JobNum
JobOper.AssemblySeq ->JobMtl.AssemblySeq
JobOper.OprSeq ->JobMtl.MtlSeq

This should be the correct linking. As Dan mentioned, a left join
would give you all Job Operations whether or not there is a
corresponding record in the Job Mtl Table. One other thought that
occurred to me while typing this, is that if you don't have a related
operation # in the Mtl Record, meaning the JobMtl.MtlSeq would be 0,
the above joins would return no records unless you made it a left
join.

I have verified the links and Crystal says they are there, but the green
"home plate" icon I was used to in V6-7 isn't there? I have looked at
some of the default reports and that icon shows up. Do you have it/

John,

The icon you refer to only shows up in the Crystal Forms that Epicor
creates from the DBF files. It is not there for the ODBC linked
tables. Are you saying that you've linked the tables as I
described? Have you verified that you have used a related operation
in the Matl Records. Have you tried changing the join type to a left
outer join?

Brian

John,

In thinking about this last night. Unless all your Jobs are only one level,
you might want to to try adding JobAsmbl
I would Join JobHead--- JobAsmbl, JobAsmbl to both Joboper & JobMatl. This
should show job material releated to each job assembly, providiing
subassemblies were created as pull as assembly

Brian

I have verified the links and Crystal says they are there, but the green
"home plate" icon I was used to in V6-7 isn't there? I have looked at
some of the default reports and that icon shows up. Do you have it/

John,

I would look carefully at the links you used to the JobMtl Table. If
you get no records after adding a field from that table I would bet
that its not properly linked. What fields are you linking on?

JobOper.Company ->JobMtl.Company
JobOper.JobNum ->JobMtl.JobNum
JobOper.AssemblySeq ->JobMtl.AssemblySeq
JobOper.OprSeq ->JobMtl.MtlSeq

This should be the correct linking. As Dan mentioned, a left join
would give you all Job Operations whether or not there is a
corresponding record in the Job Mtl Table. One other thought that
occurred to me while typing this, is that if you don't have a related
operation # in the Mtl Record, meaning the JobMtl.MtlSeq would be 0,
the above joins would return no records unless you made it a left
join.

The only point I would add in is to make sure the joins mentioned are
the only joins...
If you let Crystal do it's default joining it will also connect the VB
fields Character01...Date01....
These should not be joined and might cause the problem if they were.
Just a thought.
Also, when you see the join line, double click on the join to make sure
it's left outer.
Hope this is of some help.

is the last link right JobOper.OprSeq ->JobMtl.MtlSeq? they really have no
relationship together.

John,

I would look carefully at the links you used to the JobMtl Table. If
you get no records after adding a field from that table I would bet
that its not properly linked. What fields are you linking on?

JobOper.Company ->JobMtl.Company
JobOper.JobNum ->JobMtl.JobNum
JobOper.AssemblySeq ->JobMtl.AssemblySeq
JobOper.OprSeq ->JobMtl.MtlSeq

This should be the correct linking. As Dan mentioned, a left join
would give you all Job Operations whether or not there is a
corresponding record in the Job Mtl Table. One other thought that
occurred to me while typing this, is that if you don't have a related
operation # in the Mtl Record, meaning the JobMtl.MtlSeq would be 0,
the above joins would return no records unless you made it a left
join.

HTH,

Brian Stenglein
