All that temp stuff is probably used to generate the on hand Qty. You can
set the report for a specific data and it will tell you the qty on hand at
that point in time. This is the data that I am infact after. To use in my
turns reports.

Vantage pushes the XML datafile info to Crystal. Not exactly sure of
the specifics.
The Stock Status report has a couple cursor tables in the Data Def.
It's one of the few reports that just not a simple query on a table or
group of related tables. It fires off a process to generate some temp
tables and then links Vantage defined tables to that. I think Vantage
ver 8.0 was still Progress based (old fixed-width font).

Somehow Crystal gets that information, because I have done that when
setting up the reports. I link them to a sample xml file, which is
usually a copy of the real file from the output directory (the sample
one that BAQ report designer generates is 2 records, not enough for me
to see what I want to see usually). When I run them for real, the
system must be passing the required xml files as some type of parameter,
since it always seems to know where the new one is located at. In the
development environment is where you need to tell it which one to use.
Now, if you are asking about using 2 different xml files, I can see that
becoming much more complex. The second xml file, if it is being
generated from a different report, there doesn't seem to be any way to
pass that information back and forth.
You can make a copy of a system report definition and add tables to it
also, I have done that when needing more data for a report. Once you do
that, you can modify the Report data Definition and Report Styles with
the new version.

The only problem is that the file name changes each time that you run
the report. Also the location where the file is stored changes based on
who the user is that is logged in.
Any thoughts on how to get around these problems.

I've not done this (yet) but per instructions from the BAQ for Crystal
Reports class at Perspectives...
1. In Crystal select "Set Datasource Location" from the Database menu 2.
Expand 'Create New Connection" and select ADO.Net (XML) in the "replace
with" section 3. Click the ... button to search for the xml file to use
4. Select "Report Data Set" from the Current Source window 5. Select
"Report Data Set" from the Replace With window 6. Click on the Update
button to synchonize 7. Click Finish
These instructions are from a lab exercise so may not be exact but may
provide a starting point to figuring it out.
Let me know if more (or less) is needed because I will probably refer to
the steps above when I get around to writing new reports.

All,
I was curious if some one could explain to me how the crystal reports
that use the XML pages for information know where to go get the file
that they will be using for data.
I want to know this because I want to use the Stock Status report in
conjunction with another report that give us information about inventory
turns.
