Crystal XI Database Connect Document

I would actually second that. Once you know the 'fundamentals' so to
speak, it opens up quite a large amount of capabilities. The book
actually has a lot of code samples as well. I've complimented the book
with Epicor's CR/Tooltips/Answerbook search options online as well as
searching the archives of this list for code samples. I've tried to
document some of mine on this list for posterity too.

If you're going to Perspectives, you can order a book and pick it up
while you're there. I've ordered a 2nd copy for distribution
internally.

I strongly recommend the Epicor Tools User Guide for anyone trying to
learn all of the customization features. It has very good
explanations of BAQs, BAQ Reports (Using Crystal), Dashboards,
BAMs,BPMs, etc... You can order it through your Epicor sales person.

I do not have the document onhand for "how to connect Crystal XI to your V8 database."

Could someone please forward?

Thanks,
Dan Maddox
I have never seen that document.

You are either going to connect via ODBC or through ADO.NET(XML).

Assuming a report is already created you need to select select Database Expert from the Database menu and choose your datasource. If it is ODBC you will grab that. It if BAQ or Vantage-driven you will go for the XML type and grab the associated XML file in the mfgsysdata/reports/[username] folder. You will have to have run the XML generating report before it will show up the reports folder.

With a little more information on your direction I can be more specific.

Ross

Perhaps these are the instructions you are looking for: See
AnswerBook # 4778MPS on the Epicor website. The topic name of the
AnswerBook is "CR Modifying a Crystal Report form in V8.xx"

These are the instructions for ADO.NET.

There are instructions for ODBC in the Vantage help screens. And
there are a couple of AnswerBooks on the website for bypassing the
username & password if you are using ODBC.

Lynn,

By perusing #4778MPS, I was able to get to #7567MPS, which provides instructions on how to add new tables to the Report Definition Database. While I am still slogging through the details of getting there, it looks like your answer was a good one.
