Custom Ordering

Our company produces custom displays for various clients. For some of our clients we offer a number of variations that only change minor details of the end product and we have accounted for this variation in quoting. Our clients prefer to only bill on a single line item bases so we typically create a part reference. I am finding limitations to the part reference since you cannot capture multiple references for a single client part (my variations).

For Example, the client wants to by a Vacuum, but I produce Vacuum Red, Vacuum Blue, Vacuum Green. This variation does not affect what was billed to the customer, but it does affect what is produced.

How can I link the main line for sale to my parent part variations. My main goals are to relieves inventory at the time of shipping and track labor for each variation.

Depending on how many “variations” there are, could you make “Vacuum” a sales kit part with multiple revisions… Red, Blue, Green… and whatever revision is selected on the sales order creates the appropriate item? If there are too many variations this may become unwieldy though.

Our variations can become quite cumbersom, but can you do alternative parts for a sales kit?

I wouldn’t hold my breath, but it’s probably worth testing.
