Custom programming for 5.1 - Was 5.1 released too soon?

Britt,
One thing I learned on this subject is that any bug fixes to 5.0 will also have to be applied to 5.1. 5.0 is still going through some changes. So programmers will have to do double-duty on each fix they make in 5.0 and do the fix in 5.1 as well. At this point in time 5.0 is still the priority, so fixes to 5.1 will have a lag time. What should probably concern more people is when will 5.0 stop getting fixed? There are still a slew of folks getting ready to go to 5.0 right now.

I also noticed that in the "5.1Readme.wri" file, there are fixes in 5.1 that you won't ever see in 5.0. The list is quite long.

Subject: [Vantage] Custom programming for 5.1 - Was 5.1 released too soon?

We were planning to go to 5.1 mid-October. I requested a quote from
Custom Programming for the conversion of all our custom programs. This
is part of their response:

"Because you will be upgrading before we recommend, and knowing there
will be
multiple patches released in the first quarter, we will only provide 3
patch
upgrades and any patch upgrades required after that will be billable on
a
time and materials basis. If you would like to hold off upgrading until

after the first of the year, then we will not charge you for any patch
upgrades required."

What is going on? Was 5.1 released way too soon just like 5.0? They
had never before warned us about upcomming patches affecting our custom
programs.

They MUST be anticipating some major changes to 5.1 (or bug fixes).

I don't think we will be upgrading till the first quarter!
