Customer Memos Report for Credit Manager

The following assumes RB - I am not sure if Crystal can accomdate the field type differences any better.

I have dealt with this several times but it is not pretty. Basically you end up linking only via the company code field and then having to "filter" for the type of memo(s) desired. If you are then linking to any sort of transaction table (like invoices) you can expect to be in for a long wait. The heart of the issue is the numeric CustNum versus the Key1 memo field being a character field. RB won't accept a formula field in a link setup so it is not a choice tha is available in the field selection.

If the report is strictly credit calls and only using the Memo table it can run a lot faster. We have resorted to dual reports for credit purposes where the A/R aging for problem customer is one and the memos will be (I'm working on it now) on another.

I have an existing RB report for a different type of customer Memo called "TRIP" where we record all visits to a customer. This way before a sales engineer leaves to visit customers in a territory they can pull a report of all prior trips to customers in that area and have a briefing while on the way there.

Let me know off-list if you would like a copy as a starting point.

Our Credit dept. is going to start keeping track of customer credit
calls in Vantage (6.1) and they want a report that resembles their Excel
spreadsheet - customer name, date of contact, who they contacted and
what they noted on that date in the customer memo category.

Now, I got as far as finding that the memos table (2 of them) have no
link whatsoever to the customer table and what I've been able to extract
so far is not very user friendly.

Has anyone out there gone down this path before and been successful? I'm
not sure I understand why Epicor made "comments" so easy to extract and
"memos" so difficult. Another Epicor anomaly that perplexes me.

Sue,

My suggestion would be to try using VBFORMS, create fields for DATE OF
CONTACT, CONTACT PERSON, COMMENTS. You are then in a much better
position to create a report, export to excel or better yet since your on
version 6.1 create a dashboard for feed back. This process can then be
performed by your Credit Manager in a paperless mode.

Susan,

I've created such a report in RB. If you are interested, please contact me
off-line.
