Customer Part VS Supplier Part

If you take your BAQ and make a simple dashboard out of it (maybe with added criteria inputs of customer code and 'starting with' part number criteria fields), that might do the trick for you.

Good way to get comfortable with BAQs, dashboards, etc., in general.(Practiced knowledge you can build on later for more comlex things.)

Hope it helps

Rob... thanks. This has some nice potential. I am getting ready to
test it with my engineering group.

Question... now that I have set this as a BAQ Search option, which is
now available any time we perform a part search, is there a way to
setup a 'Start At' option? Currently the query is displaying 136
items. As this grows it could become an issue to run through each
one to find the one you need.

Thanks.

Vantage 8.03.406

Anyone out there dealing with a Customer who supplies their part number
and then provides you with 3 or 4 Manufacturer part numbers? They then
supply the B.O.M. that calls out their number. What and how do you
enter this into Vantage? How do you manage inventory? It is very
possible that one or all of these manufacturer part numbers (items) can
be used for another Customer. How do you manage this scenario? What
do you list on your internal B.O.M.? Is it easly referenced within the
system?

Thanks.
Jeff
Jeff, you can link the customer part number to your part master through the sales order process (i.e. when an order is entered and a customer part number is entered it will automatically create the linke going forward) or through customer part under Order Management/Setup. You link the customer part to your part based on the customer ID so one customer part can be used for different internal part numbers. You can usually add the customer part number in most queries to track things like inventory

The only suggestion I can come up with would be alternate revisions with
the main revision using the customer supplied part and alternate
revisions each using the OEM parts involved.

Mark, thanks. Let me throw this at you. I am aware of using the
Customer Part as you mention and I am ok up to that point. Now, move
to the Engineering Workbench. If I inventory the manufacturer part
then I need to list that on my B.O.M. to pull inventory. Wearing my
engineering hat, how do I easily find the part when setting up my
B.O.M.. The cross-reference process doesn't flow to engineering and
that is where I get stumped. Again, if I am working from my Customer
B.O.M., where they do not reference the manufacturer part (this may
have originally been on a separate document, I would plug the
Customer number in and hope to see any possible cross-reference.

The Customer part works well in Sale Order Entry and Shipping. I am

Write a simple BAQ or dashboard search to aid engineering by searching for the customer p/n associated with your p/n. (Your p/n is what will appear in YOUR BOM.)

I've buried multiple customer part numbers in the second (third, fourth)
line of a part description. That way you can enter even a partial
customer part number in 'Where Description Contains' and it will find
your part.

Thanks to everyone who provided feedback. I think all were valid
ideas. I actually to the BAQ route and actually figured out how to
setup and Advanced Search and answered my own question to Rob. The
buy in was huge, so this was a huge win. This issue has been around
for a while and resurfaces every couple of months. Thanks again.
