Customisation on Order Entry causes a five minute order load tim

Suggestion then: Stick a messagebox.show(your msg) within every subroutine and function you have ('your msg' indicating which sub or function is invoked).

That'll make any inadvertant looping obvious.

I'd love to post the code, however, I'm not in a position to do so :(

I'll stumble along blindly for a while and see what happens...

We've recently started running a customisation against Order Entry (in Vantage 8.03.406A) that our parent company who also use Vantage have requested we use. However, on a small selection of computers this new customisation causes a sales order to take approx five minutes to load ! (from the point where you type in an order number and hit tab on your keyboard).

All of our computers are running Windows XP, with either SP2 or 3, and Sophos AV reports that they are virus free. All dotNet updates are applied, up to dotNET 3.5 SP2, as are MDAC etc.

The only way I've been able to cure this problem is by wiping the computer and installing a fresh Windows XP, which even with imaging software takes too long.

Are there any other libraries / runtimes etc that I need to update ?. There must be a reason why this is happening, but I just can't find out why ?.

Thanks.
Not sure if this would help but have you tried clearing the local cache directory on the machines with the problems?

C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Epicor\Vantage

We had some forms that either worked incorrectly or were having saved customizations showing up incorrectly and after I cleared their local caches they seemed to function fine again.

Just an idea, may not help at all.

Are you on Progress or SQL?

You could try this and see if it helps.

1. At the workstation, get out of Vantage.

2. Right mouse click the Windows [Start] button, select Explorer.

3. Go to C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Epicor\Vantage

4. Delete ALL of the Versional folders below the Vantage folder.

5. Log back into Vantage..

We're using SQL 2005, and all caches / temporary folders in Windows etc have been cleared already (along with the Vantage one) with no difference :(

I enabled 'Tracing' in Vantage to see if this would help me diagnose this at all, unfortunately it hasn't but the text below repeats itself every 30 seconds for around 4 and a half minutes whilst the sales order loads...

<parameter name='absolutePage' type='System.Int32' ><![CDATA[0]]></parameter>
<parameter name='morePages' type='System.Boolean' ><![CDATA[]]></parameter>
</parameters>
</tracePacket>

... I'll log a support call with Epicor about this, however, as this is a customisation they'll say that this needs to go to their consulting team and will be chargeable (Epicor UK allways seem to do this and wash their hands of customisations like this).

The report monitor 'heartbeat' is normal and tends to 'pollute' tracing. Whenever I want to trace BO calls, I shutdown the system monitor running in the system tray first. That reduces the amount of 'clutter' in the trace file.

PS - have you tried removing all flavors of .net on client and then install just 3.5? (3.5 install includes 2.0 and 3.0 all encapsulated into one)

Epicor wrote the customization (for fee) & it performs like this?

Escalate it (threaten dropping maintenance if necessary). That is unacceptable!

I've run into this issue before. I'm pretty sure at this point support
will tell you to start with the base form and add one piece of
customization at a time until you find what piece causes the long load
time.

If your company authored the customization, time to review & reoptimize.

Sounds like you may have setup of multiple event triggers that are tripping each other into a long circular loop.

Post your code. Someone here might see something obvious.

Get ready for a battle if you try to drop support. It's their cash cow & will fight.

Be firm though and you'll be alright. (They'll take you back if you change your mind in the future no matter what they threaten.. It's nearly pure profit for them.)
