Dashboard to Excel

I’m slowly making progress here. Thank you for all the help so far.

I’ve created a BAQ and a related dashboard. Both result in the required data. However, from the dashboard when I right-click and select “copy all with headers” and then paste it in Excel - all the formatting is CRAZY! How do I get it to carry the same columns from the dashboard to Excel???

Thanks!!!

When you say all the formatting is crazy do you mean the cells don’t line
up? Normally when you copy and paste it should align with excel.

You can also try deploying the dashboard as a .dll. In dashboard
maintenance go to Tools/Deploy Dashboard and check the box for “Deploy
Smart Application”. Click the deploy button and it will create the .dll

When complete, save the dashboard

Go to menu maintenance where you deployed the dashboard. Change the
dashboard type to dashboard assembly instead of run time. Close out and
reenter Epicor

You will now be able to right click and “Copy to Excel” (if excel is on the
same computer) and see how the alignment looks. Users also like the extra
feature of being able to both open and copy to excel at the same time

One thing we have seen is that there are carriage returns in the Part Description. Excel interprets these as a new cell, and that causes the data to not line up. You can try to truncate the description in the dashboard to 15 or 20 characters.

Mark,

Thanks. I got through the dashboard deployment and saved it. However, I’m not sure what you mean by “menu maintenance where you deployed the dashboard”. Nothing opened after I clicked save so I’m not sure where I’m supposed to look. :frowning:
Thanks!

Mark,

OK - I did find what you were suggesting and did all that. When I reopened Excel and ran the dashboard, I did get the Copy to Excel option. However…nothing happens. :frowning: Excel doesn’t open - there is no spreadsheet. Am I still missing a step??

Thanks again!

Thanks for the suggestion. I’m not using description at the moment - just part number, trans type and trans date. I can’t figure out what is happening. :frowning:

If those are the only columns you are using, I find it strange that the formatting would be messed up. I’ve only seen formatting get screwy when there are carriage returns.

Maybe post a picture of the excel sheet so that we can narrow down where the formatting issue is?

Do you have excel deployed on the same workstation? It should be greyed out
if it cannot detect Excel usually

Only thing may be a permissions problem where on the Epicor server where
the .dll folder is kept?

Try redeploying the dashboard one more time and then recheck your menu to
make sure it is deployed correctly for the right dashboard

IS the dashboard deployed as a menu or only for your use?

If it is on a menu, in security/menu maintenance you find that menu, you
need to change it to a dashboard assembly instead of runtime dashboard,
When you change the selection it will allow you to browse to find the .dll
you created

If this dashboard is just for your use and you deploy it as a smart client,
you can test in dashboard maintenance by going to tools/deploy
dashboard/test smart client.

Retrieve your results through the refresh button and then you should be
able to right click and Copy to Excel

If you are deploying a dashboard assembly, you can only test it through the
tools/deploy dashboard/test smart client. Otherwise it has to be deployed
on a menu to get it to work

I think I might have found an issue??? I can find the dashboard on the security/menu maintenance. How do I get it, for example, in the Inventory Management section? Or even Exec Analysis/Status Dashboards?

Thanks!

How I do this since I am lazy it to check the add favorite Item which make the menu entry in the process section of the menu and is only shown in your dashboard assemblies favorites.

Then open menu maintenance and change the parent menu and order sequence to where you want it to show.

Have you tried adding it as a menu item in Menu Maintenance in the Inventory Management section?

I’ll do some research to figure out how to add it to IM. I knew how to do all of that when we were on Vantage 6.1 - but things have apparently changed with 10 and it doesn’t seem to work the same way. :frowning:

Thanks all!!! I sure appreciate all the help and advice!

You just add a new menu item through Menu maintenance and add it to the
Inventory Folder

Do you want some screen shots on how to do that?

Mark - that would be great!! Thank you!

Add it to desired menu with menu maintenance:

Just click the parent menu item, then NEW MENU with the create button. The biggest things to set are:
MENU ID (unique)
Name (As displayed)
Order Seq (relative to other menu items)
Program Type to dashboard (most likely assembly)
Dashboard: Select from dropdown
Customization (if needed)

Also don’t forget to set security on other tab if needed

To all - thank you SO much for all your help!! You have no idea how much it is appreciated!

I’m still having an issue, though and can’t figure out why. I have successfully added the dashboard to the menu - it is marked as dashboard-assembly. Security set for me. Copy to Excel option is there. However, when I click it - nothing happens. Excel doesn’t open. No error message. Just nada. I have closed and re-opened Epicor several times.

Thoughts??? Thanks again!!!

The excel issue is out of my league. Perhaps one of the local superhumans can help. @josecgomez.trigemco @rbucek @jgiese.wci

Are you refreshing the dashboard with data before you right click?

Is the BAQ on which the dashboard is based “shared”
