Data Collection Bar Codes (6.1) BAR Code for Receiving?

Along the lines of Bar Coding, has anyone set up to do any other
data entry in Vantage using Bar Codes, i.e. Receiving or Inventory
movements? I thought some were using the AMM module to accomplish
this or at least assist with accomplishing this?

I'm trying to define some bar codes to replicate key strokes to make our
shop users life (even) easier when they use Plant Floor.
For example I've got one to start direct production activity defined as
"*%DA%DP*", i.e. Alt-A, Alt-P, and it works fine. The problem I have is in
replicating the F2 keystroke (ie OK, Save etc). I'm using "*$B*" but when I
scan this nothing happens. I'm using a Wasp CCD scanner set to read Code 39

Typically when trying to do this, I will tab "$I" to a button and then send

How are you setting up your barcodes? Do you have a single barcode to
clock you in or do you have multiple barcodes the employee must scan?
How about starting an activity, what is you scanning sequence? I would
want our office employees who only clock in and out to start and end
their day to be able to just scan a single barcode to clock in and out.
I want to keep it simple as possible for starting an activity, but I
thinking this will require multiple scans one for the employee number
and others for Job Number, Assembly and Operation. I am curious of how
other are able to accomplish this.

I look forward to your response.

Thanks

Rich,
Ok, here is how to set it up.
You need to have your barcode scanner enabled for Code39 extended or full
ASCII.
You then need to have a barcode that has these components:
* = Start and Stop (begin and end all barcodes with this)
$M = Enter
$I = Tab
Then appropriate keyboard shortcuts to get the job done.
For instance. Log in:
*123$M$M$M$M*
Start, empid, enter to accept, enter to accept shift, enter to OK shift
window, enter to activate Log In/Out, end.
The same principle can be applied to log into and out of job.
I modified the traveler to include the following barcode for each operation.
IIF ({JOBOPER.BCOPRSEQ} > "" and {@OperVendor} = "",
"*" & Trim ({JOBOPER.JOBNUM}) & "$M" & Trim ({JOBOPER.ASMSEQ}) & "$M" & Trim
({JOBOPER.OPRSEQ}) & "$M" & "$M" & "*"
,"")
This single barcode will scan from the Start Activity screen after selecting
Production (or Setup, Rework...).
It enters the Job Number, enter to get to assm field, then Assm Seq, then
enter to move to next field, then Op Seq, then two enters to accept and ok
the screen.
I highly recommend combining barcodes with touch screens. It makes Data
Collection quick and painless.
If this is to detailed, sorry, but I wanted to make sure you had the tools
to continue this as desired.
Good luck,
Aaron Hoyt
