Data Collection Error - 1 employee only

I have opened up call number 832066PSC for the Data Collection/Plant Floor
DC bug:

Multi company plant floor data collection returns ** No EmpBasic record is
available. (91) error on some but not all employees trying to clock in,
clock to a job, or clock out, when both companies are opened in Vantage.

I think Paul figured it out and it seems as though it is a bug in Vantage.
I was able to duplicate the problem as Paul described below and here's what
*seems* to be causing it:

If we have a 'Shop Employee' linked to a USERID and that USER ID changes
companies in Office Vantage, he gets this error when he tries to log into
DC.

Sarah,

I am having this problem when I am logged into a second company I have
created in the database. When I change my login to our regular company the
problem disappears. I would like to know if this is the case with you as
well....

One employee is getting an error when he tries to enter is id in plant floor
data collection. No other employees are having this problem. To confuse
things even more, the employee can log in and out of data collection just
find if he uses a regular vantage logon and uses the Office Data Collection.

The error he gets is:

** No EmpBasic record is available. (91)

I am so confused. I tried running the endact program, but he does not have
any locked transactions. Then we tried having him logon to vantage and
using office data collection and it worked fine. Any ideas?

There is a progress utility that vantage can supply you with that will
clear locked up dc users
I don't remember the exact name of it but you should contact them

Is this employee added in the "shop employee list" under Job Management and

Yes. He's been using it for about 3 months without any problems. He also

In the Epicor ePortal I found a reference to error 91 on answerbook number
153MPS.

Error 91 is caused when you make some kind of query for a field to be
extracted from a record that is not available. This error may be caused by a
variety of reasons

Solution #1

Error 91 may be caused by a inconsistancy on a specific version of Vantage.
Make sure you are on the latest patch. Several printing problems that
produced an error 91 were fixed by a patch.

Solution #2

Make sure a record is available before attempting to reference its fields.
Review the logic of your procedure, and make use of the AVAILABLE function
if appropriate.

Solution #3

Error 91 has been fixed in the past by running IDXBUILD ALL. This is a
effective solution when the error 91 occurs as the result of running a
process (generating suggestions, checks, etc) in Vantage.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:

After you have reviewed these options, you may wish to contact Vantage
Technical Support for further assistance. Some occurances of error 91 may
require a fix program. These are specific programs that require that Vantage
Technical Support to review your situation before they can be sent. The
following is an example of a situation where a fix program was necessary:

"No VENDOR record is available" when printing an RFQ. - Fix program
CVVENDPP.R available.
(See page 340.42 for more information)

5/12/00---this error--984-- has been know to pop up along with error 91's
(No xxxx record is Available. (91) ) if employees click icons to many times
in succession. i.e., they had an icon for part tracker set up on data
collection machines, and when one particular employee
would click this icon, he recieved these error messages because he would
click it 3+ times rapidly in succession. Workaround-- train the employee to
click only once on the icon.

Wow - Thanks! (Not that I even know how to do some of this - like "Review
the logic of your procedure, and make use of the AVAILABLE function

Before I posted here I tried searching in answerbook for this error and
couldn't find anything. Maybe I made my search too specific or used too
many words. For learnings sake - What did you use for search words?

One employee is getting an error when he tries to enter is id in plant floor
data collection. No other employees are having this problem. To confuse
things even more, the employee can log in and out of data collection just
find if he uses a regular vantage logon and uses the Office Data Collection.

The error he gets is:

** No EmpBasic record is available. (91)

I am so confused. I tried running the endact program, but he does not have
any locked transactions. Then we tried having him logon to vantage and
using office data collection and it worked fine. Any ideas?

Sarah,
Are you using the Vantage Gateway, for your data collection.
When we first tried the approach way back when with TT5's it was awfully
funky at times. We would get employee's stuck in the gateway machine from
time to time.

HELLO:
Anyone listening
Vantage has a DC Fix progress file
I have it if you want it
HEre is the text file form the file

Install the program by copying the attached CLOCKOUT.R file to your
\Vantage directory.

To run the program.

1) Start a Vantage session.
2) Select menu options: Vantage Basic -> Command Window.
3) In the command windows key the command EDITPROG and press ENTER.
4) In the Procedure Editor window enter the command RUN CLOCKOUT.R and
press F2.
5) The program will then prompt for your Vantage Company ID/ and
Employee ID.
6) The program will end by displaying a completion message.
7) File|Exit|No to save changes when leaving the procedure editor
window.
Sarah,

Interesting coincidence. Yesterday afternoon only one of our shop employees
could not login to the machining center data collection. Error message read
"Record is in use". Epicor tech supp said they would send me the clockout.r
program to run to free this record. Three different people sent me three
different versions of that program. None ran correctly. I'm waiting now
for them to send me a freshly compiled version that they THINK they might be
able to send. He said that he didn't mind if I asked the Vantage group for
a copy - (but won't guarantee whether it will work correctly). And I really

So. Does someone out there have an unaltered copy of clockout.r, that works
on Vantage 4.00.904 - Progress 9.0B, that they would be willing to part
with?

Thanks.

Just the number 91 they also say some occurances of error 91
require a fix program. That is what meco_inc_paris was trying to tell you.
There is evidently a fix program available from Epicor support for this type
of problem.

Wow - Thanks! (Not that I even know how to do some of this - like "Review
the logic of your procedure, and make use of the AVAILABLE function
if appropriate.", what the heck does that mean - but it helps!!)

Before I posted here I tried searching in answerbook for this error and
couldn't find anything. Maybe I made my search too specific or used too
many words. For learnings sake - What did you use for search words?

In the Epicor ePortal I found a reference to error 91 on answerbook number
153MPS.

Error 91 is caused when you make some kind of query for a field to be
extracted from a record that is not available. This error may be caused by
a
variety of reasons

Solution #1

Error 91 may be caused by a inconsistancy on a specific version of
Vantage.

These are specific programs that require that
Vantage
Technical Support to review your situation before they can be sent. The
following is an example of a situation where a fix program was necessary:

"No VENDOR record is available" when printing an RFQ. - Fix program
CVVENDPP.R available.
(See page 340.42 for more information)

5/12/00---this error--984-- has been know to pop up along with error 91's
(No xxxx record is Available. (91) ) if employees click icons to many
times
in succession. i.e., they had an icon for part tracker set up on data
collection machines, and when one particular employee
would click this icon, he recieved these error messages because he would
click it 3+ times rapidly in succession. Workaround-- train the employee
to
click only once on the icon.

Yes. He's been using it for about 3 months without any problems. He
also
logged in yesterday morning but found the problem when he tried to log
in
at
night. It's so strange b/c as far as I can tell, nothing changed
yesterday.
We're going to try rebooting the vantage server at lunch time and see if
that helps.

We are getting ready to take inventory and we are going to use the tag
system that vantage has built in. I was just asked a question about getting
a report that would show the tag numbers and qty counted and also include
the value of the inventory for each tag. Does anyone know if the system has
this ability now or does it take a custom report?

Thanks,

to log in shop floor DC I can use it ok (I'm using my ID to test this)
