Data collection stations locking up or employees stuck in trans

We use it frequently also. Since 6.1, my copy always has an expiration date
and I have to request a new one about each month. Support advised me it was
standard practice so they did not get outdated. It is a hassle to remember
to request a new one each month, but when you need it you do have time to
wait. Is everyone seeing an expiration date - or am I the only "standard
practice" ??

You are correct. It is called endact.r, but you must specify what version
of Vantage you are on. And everytime you upgrade you will need a new
version of endact.
We use it ALL the time.

We were experiencing problems like this with new data collection machines -
XP SP2, 512 MB of RAM - touch screens doing data collection duty.

We had five machines setup for data collection - out of the five, three
never gave us a single problem - all identical configurations. Two of the
machines crashed on a daily basis. After weeks of banging our heads and
trying everything else (including reinstalling the OS and Vantage), we found
the problem - the only thing they had in common was the network switch they
were attached to. Apparently, Vantage data collection is extremely
sensitive to network problems. None of the PC's on the switch seem to have
any trouble. The switch was also giving us problems with our IP-based
cameras - the application that recorded their data kept crashing. We
thought it was poorly written software, but after finding this, we bypassed
the same switch with a camera - no problems so far.

Also, since we routed around the switch - 0 problems with Vantage crashing
on our data collection stations (it has been 3 weeks and counting). We're
replacing the switch tomorrow.

So... Consider giving your data collection stations a different path to the
server (avoid whatever switch they are on). That seemed to do the trick for
us.

Subject: [Vantage] data collection stations locking up or employees stuck in
transactions

Folks:

Has anyone else experienced data collection terminals either locking
up or displaying error messages? Our data collection stations are low
end PCs running W98. Some are wired, others are wireless. When a
station errors out, it also tends to "lock" an employee into a
transaction with no way to end activity on it. We have to go in as an
administrator and run the endact.r program to get them out of the
transaction so that they can clock out for the day.

Anyone else suffering from this? If so, have you found a solution? Is
the solution upgrading the stations to faster PCs and XP?

Any help is appreciated.

Thanks,

There was a program Tech support sent us to end the activity on a locked
data collection user. I think it was called endact.r or something like that.
