Data Collection tied to a Tone Generator

Our time source is an Active Directory DC, for the Vantage Data
Collectors and the Progress server. One PC in our rack has a sound
card. We ran from the speaker output of the sound card to the line-in
input of a Valcom amplifier. The Valcom amplifier drives speaker horns
on the shop floor.

Using the "Scheduled Tasks" utility, we play wave files at appropriate
times (start/end shift, lunch, break). Works like a champ, no time
drift between PCs and servers.

Others have used a "relay output" card, similar to what you could get here:

The outputs of this board would be controlled by Scheduled Tasks, and in
turn could drive up to 8 inputs on a tone generator, which in turn would
drive an amplifier and speaker horns.

have fun,
john

I would be interested in talking or corresponding with anyone who has
connected Vantage 6.1 or 8.0 Data Collection or Scheduling to a tone
generator in their plant. I understand that it has been done by a few
companies.

Currently we have it connected to a time clock which from time to time
may not be in sync with the server. Any help or advice would be
greatly appreciated.
