Data migration into Vantage

Thats what we did - saved quite a few thousands of dollars in import
fees. See some samples I've posted here - turn on tracing in vantage -
use full dataset logging - see which values are getting sent to
business objects and make the same calls. to get started search for
some of my posts - all objects follow roughly the same format
including po.

Hello All,

We are in the process of planning our Pilot for Vantage 8.03, but am
having problem loading outstanding Purchase Orders from our existing
system into Vantage. I've managed to extract the data into a .csv
file, but that's as far as i got. Epicor has not been of much help in
all of these, so I am enquiring, how did you manage to migrate your
data into Vantage? Any suggestions on how to go about this (other
than typing everything in manually!!!!)????

your advices would be much appreciated.

I don't think you can cut and paste for Purchase Orders. Since there is
a header, lines, releases, and misc charges all in different tables, it
doesn't lend itself to a flat file format. Some things you are just
going to have do manually through the interface.

You can only "cut & paste" where there is a "list" panel.
Someone on this list recommended MacroExpress to load V8 panels.
I am doing this with customers and parts, but (not being an expert)
there is much trial and
error to get the program to work right. The premise is the same, you
take
your excel dataset as your input document and use MacroExpress to copy
to vantage and
move to the next field or tab or whatever. The program is around $30.
good luck.

Another option is written VB.Net standalone programs to populate the
documents. You're using the same interface that the client does, so you're
business rules are enforced. However, you won't get help from Epicor and it's
undocumented. I just ran a trace in the client and watched which objects were
called with which parameters.

How many open purchase orders do you have? Is it really too much to do by
hand? It's good practice...

There are macro programs designed to emulate keypunching. GroundControl
by Acrasoft is one I have used to do plenty on 6.1 and it is very
simple.

Good luck!
