DB Restore Utility

Norm,

You only need to stop the (PlayDB). Restore while you are in the PlayDB,DB
Directory and restart your PlayDB.

Has anyone sucessfully used the "PROREST" utility to restore a backup of the
vantage 4.0 data base to a different directory to use as a "play db"?

We currently have a "play db" but it is not updated until a server problem
crops up that necessitates re-boot.

We back up daily with "backvan.bat", and for users that can live with
"day-old" information, the restore would seemingly work great to alleviate
the "no license available" problem.

Does Progress need to be stopped, or can I just stop the "play db" and
perform the restore to the "play db" directory and restart the "play db"

thanks in advance for any insight.

Norm:
Stop the test database then use the prorest to copy the live database. Be
ready for your phone to ring if you do it during normal working hours. I
have in my nightly backup.bat to do this immediately after the backup then I
can get a good night's sleep and know that my test will at the most be one
day old.
