DCD with thin client

Another alternative that you may want to consider BEFORE buying into Citrix
is Windows 2000 server which includes Terminal Services. The performance is
great over DSL/cable, we don't use dial up (to terminal)but rather establish
a VPN over the internet to our terminal server. It is secured by ISA
server, once again the performance is unbelievable with the clients using
either 56K modems dialing up to internet, or if you have DSL/Cable on the
client end the performance is almost like being on the internal network. A
key point is using W2K professional on client end for three reasons: you
don't need a Terminal Server CAL if using W2K professional, W2K/Terminal
server will automatically map your remote printer so that you can print
remotely, and setup takes less than 5 minutes.

We do. When it's working, it's great. We seem to crash our Citrix
server daily, and our Vantage server several times a week. Our
administrator hasn't figured out why, but as yet he isn't pinning it
on Vantage or Citrix.

We run 12 thin clients through a 256k frame relay from La Crosse, WI
to St. Paul, MN. We also have another 6 thin clients in our St. Paul
location, plus 4 "thick" clients directly networked to the Vantage
server. Performance at the thin client is quite acceptable,
approaching the speed at the server console.
