Dell Server Question

We have 2 Dell servers and 12 Dell workstations for almost 2 years now.
Our Vantage server is a dual P-II 350 with 384 MB RAM. (Wish I had more RAM,
I don't know if you can have too much. It's amazing how fast you can out
grow
what you have.)
They all work great and phone support has been excellent not that you
will need it but it is comforting to know it's there if you do.
I had a bad DLT Tape drive out of the box, they were here the next day to
replace it.
My next server will be a Dell!

I have some clients using Dell server (I believe they were 500 dual
processors) very successfully

Well, all our workstations are dell's (about 35) and they run like a champ.
Our servers (3) are all Compaq's Never had a problem with them. Have had (1)
for 2 years and the other 2 (e-mail,firewall) for a little over a year.

hi kim, we have a brand new dell server dedicated to vantage and it works
very well. it is configured like your spec, but with 3 36g hard drives for
raid. dell has great service, and they'll do a lease for ya too...

Kim,

We have been using a Dell PowerEdge server for a year now with no
issues at all. Our config is a single P-III 550, 1GB of RAM, 6 9GB 10,000
RPM drives running RAID 10. I also have 2 older Compaq servers here as
well. Very little problems with those as well.

Yes, I'm running a dual 500mhz, Dell 2300, 512mb Ram, 2 mirrored drives.
Yes, I'm doing it successfully, and yes I would recommend one.

I have several Dell Servers including the 4300 with Dual 550's and 768MB RAM
RAID 10 with 27GB's of 10k rpm drives. I would recommend the powervault 120
DDS tape changer as well. Service is awesome. I also have Compaq servers and
DEC Alpha servers (now Compaq) in my opinion Compaq service sucks compared
to Dell.

Is there really any performance gain after say 256MB ?

Sounds like overkill to me, too. But he didn't mention nbr of users, or
what else was running on the machine. I bought 512MB for ours a year ago
(new to Vantage) and it rarely sees over 150MB in use with 20 - 25 users.

If you're looking to upgrade, it's easy to use the task manager to see how
much memory your current configurattion is utilizing. If you need more
memory in the future, it will probably be cheaper then, than now.

Morning,

The RAM we have in our server is on the high side but we when we
purchased the server we got a great deal on it. WE are currently running
both Vantage ver 3 and 4 (for testing) on the same system. We currently
have 30 user. Also do so file storage, but nothing major.

yes compaq service does suck compared to dell, cant argue that. At least the
machines hold up (knock on wood)
