I think you have to recreate it in the live environment.

From the Customization Screen, File-->Export to XML.

Get into your LIVE environment, enable Dev Mode and from the menu enter
that same screen. Import the XML from there.

Export your customization to xml from TEST and reimport it (and menu activate it) in your live db.

Note - any user personalizations to base will be lost.

I move customizations from one environment to the other on a continual basis. I have even exported and imported customizations from one Vantage version to another, both up level and down level. I have not had any problem to date and I have been doing this since version 8.03.xxx. I always do my original customizations in the test environment and/or test machine and test them thoroughly before I even think about importing to the live. This saves a lot of headaches later. If I had to re-create the customization in the live environment then the testing and verification process must be done again. I have some fairly complex customizations with lots of user defined fields. I cannot imagine having to generate the customization twice.

Since version 803.40x there is an import customization option within Customization Maintenance (System Management/Utilities/Customization Maintenance). This also allows an existing customization to be overwritten if necessary, which in my case, is quite often. There have been a couple of exceptions to this when importing down level; I then had to do the import from within developer mode. The system will let you know if that becomes necessary.

Just be sure to verify and test thoroughly at each version level.

Food for thought: there is an option when upgrading to a new version to have the system clear the old version folders (See <clearClientDir value="Never" options="Never|Always|Prompt" /> under <deployment settings> in the client/config/xxxxx.mfgsys file. If this is set to Always then any old exported customizations will be deleted. If you are in the habit of exporting to the default folders then be careful with this one or you can lose all of your exported customizations. I do my exporting to a network folder that is backed up on a regular basis just to ensure this never happens to me. It is not a bad idea to clear the folder either. If you have a lot of customizations or the user has a lot of personalizations this folder can get rather large. I don't believe in wasting unnecessary disk space.
