Is there anyway to audit when people access a file on a stand alone
Windows 2000 Professional box.
I tried to go into the advanced properties of that file but it got a
little fuzzy for me when it asked for a user name etc
Got a problem with too many people playing SOL.EXE if you know what I
mean!

If you want to stop games, just go to add/remove programs, Windows
Components, highlight accessories, click details, uncheck games, and click
okay.
Windows 2000 will remove all the games on the computer that normally comes
with it.
As for auditing there should be something in the Security tab of a directory
or file; but unfortunately their auditing process is not very useful, very
limited and all audits must be accessed through the Event Viewer.
That's the built in stuff anyways, I'm sure there is a third party program
out there somewhere that really does a good job and is easy to use.

Actually I like to leave those buttons active with a different result.
Usually, a great big Eye with the caption "I'm watching you" under it.
Seems to cover a lot of ground in reducing non-sanctioned behavior.

Ted,
This helped. You mentioned Admin rights and so did support. I got thinking
about it. We were using a login that had Admin rights to the PC but not an
Admin to the servers. When we login in with an account that is an Admin to
the PC and the servers all went well. Yeah!
Thanks

One thing that I have noticed with XP is that, first; you have to do the
installation as someone with administrator rights. Second, you need to run
Vantage once completely under the administrator account. This ensures that
everything is properly registered and usable by all users.
Hope this helps,

I hope everyone else's install are going okay. It's kind of lonely here and
one the list.
My upgrade from 5.0 to 5.2 has gone fairly smooth (I hope), except for a
PC that is running XP professional.
It installs the client okay, but when you try to run it give an error about
"Control-Frame: Splinter1. Class not registered ....." etc.
I have tried reinstalling Progress from the Progress/netsetup and have tried
Progress locally. Neither works.
Anyone else had this problem?

One idea is to set up the Vendor as a Purchase Point for the Credit Card
Vendor. This way you can proceed as normal. The only problem is you bury
your vendor inside the credit card vendor id.

Subject: RE: AP Question
For version 3.0, below is a procedure suggested by Epicor that we use. You
basically enter an invoice to the credit card getting all the $ to the right
g/l accounts and pay that invoice. You then enter invoices for all the po
receipts to each of the vendors that were on the credit card (the receipts
get the costs to the jobs). Then you do invoice adjustments to each of
these vendor receipts to adjust them to zero.
From epicor:
Summary AP Credit card statement for multiple vendor PO receipts
Book Vantage General Information
Page 266MPS
PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: 266MPS
How do I enter credit card statements for payment?
PROBLEM RESOLUTION:
Vantage Support recommends the following procedure for entering credit card
statements for a payment.
***NOTE: Try this procedure in you TRAINING DATABASE before attempting it in
your live database.
The charges on the statement include purchase order items from multiple
vendors as well as purchases made without a purchase order.
1. Purchase order has been created.
2. Receipt of purchase order.
Debit Expense
Credit AP Clearing
3. Vendor was paid with a corporate credit card.
4. Credit card statement arrives.
5. Add a GL Account for "Credit Card Reconciliation".
6. Enter credit card statement into AP Invoice Entry. Invoice/Add/Select
credit card vendor/Add Miscellaneous Line/Enter data in part and description
fields/Enter Qty 1/Enter Unit Cost with the total amount on the statement/GL
Distribution - enter the total of all purchase order purchases to the
"Credit card reconciliation" GL Account/Enter the appropriate GL Accounts
for all miscellaneous purchases / Post
Debit Credit Card Reconciliation Account
Debit GL Accounts for miscellaneous purchase
Credit AP Account
7. Add a different AP Invoice Entry Group/Invoice/Add/Enter a "dummy"
invoice for each purchase order receipt referenced on the Credit Card
Statement making sure the amount showing as the Invoice Amount equals the
amount on the Credit Card Statement/Post
Debit AP Clearing
Credit AP Account
8. Remove the "dummy" invoices from the Open Accounts Payable by entering AP
Adjustments. AP/Gen Ops/Adjustment/Select the vendor and invoice number
entered above/Enter a minus sign and the full amount of the invoice in the
Adjustment field/Enter the "Credit Card Reconciliation" GL Account number in
the GL Account field/Enter data in the Description and Comments fields if
desired/Click Okay.
Debit AP Account related to the invoice
Credit Credit Card Reconciliation Account

I agree - I think the problem is that the system won't run the program. You
need to be an actual user. Scheduled Tasks allows (requires) you to select
a user to run the task.
You can also get there by going to Start -> Programs -> Accessories ->
System Tools -> Scheduled Tasks

For the less gifted in Command Line interface, there is a great freeware
program called Smart Schedule available at http://freesoft.da.ru/
that give a GUI interface to AT and allows you to control the schedule of
your remote machines from your own desk. Just start the program...connect
to the remote computer and start pushing buttons.
I can fight my way through the AT command if I try, but this is so easy and
free, I can't live without it.
Hope this is of help so someone.

Okay I am pulling my hair out on this one
Trying to use the NT 4.0 AT Command to schedule a Batch file to reboot
my data collection pc's
I am using the free psshutdown utility that is provided on WININTERNALS
web site
Anyway
I have a batch file called cycle.bat in my c:\tools directory
The batch file has a psshutdown command for each data collection pc
No matter what I do, I cannot get the batch file to run thru the AT
Command
I have scheduled the Vantage.bat file no problems
I have even moved the psshutdown utility and the batch file to my winnt
directory
Nothing happens
I have tried every combination I can think of to make this work
such at
at 14:00 c:\tools\cycle.bat
That does not work
at 14:00 "c:\tools\cycle.bat
Does not work
at 14:00 cycle.bat does not work
But I can drop to a dos prompt and type in cycle and hit return and away
we go

The secret to the AT command is that it runs under the Scheduler service.
This service runs as a system service and as such cannot access networked
resources. You need to configure the service to run as a user with the
proper name and password to access all of the those machines.
Hope this helps,

If you want to stop games, just go to add/remove programs, Windows
Components, highlight accessories, click details, uncheck games, and click
okay.
Windows 2000 will remove all the games on the computer that normally comes
with it.
As for auditing there should be something in the Security tab of a directory
or file; but unfortunately their auditing process is not very useful, very
limited and all audits must be accessed through the Event Viewer.
That's the built in stuff anyways, I'm sure there is a third party program
out there somewhere that really does a good job and is easy to use.

Ted,
This helped.

Subject: RE: AP Question
For version 3.0, below is a procedure suggested by Epicor that we use. You
basically enter an invoice to the credit card getting all the $ to the right
g/l accounts and pay that invoice. You then enter invoices for all the po
receipts to each of the vendors that were on the credit card (the receipts
get the costs to the jobs). Then you do invoice adjustments to each of
these vendor receipts to adjust them to zero.
From epicor:
Summary AP Credit card statement for multiple vendor PO receipts
Book Vantage General Information

System Tools -> Scheduled Tasks

Try Scheduled Tasks under My Computer. I use this to schedule my backvan
and to update the CPU clock.

Does not work
at 14:00 cycle.bat does not work
But I can drop to a dos prompt and type in cycle and hit return and away
we go

For the less gifted in Command Line interface, there is a great freeware
program called Smart Schedule available at http://freesoft.da.ru/
that give a GUI interface to AT and allows you to control the schedule of
your remote machines from your own desk. Just start the program...connect
to the remote computer and start pushing buttons.
I can fight my way through the AT command if I try, but this is so easy and
free, I can't live without it.
Hope this is of help so someone.

The secret to the AT command is that it runs under the Scheduler service.
This service runs as a system service and as such cannot access networked
resources. You need to configure the service to run as a user with the
proper name and password to access all of the those machines.
Hope this helps,
Ted Kitch
