Diskeeper

We just got a Dump and Load kit for 5.0, but haven't used it yet. Can't get anyone off for long enough.

In the document it states that Tech Support has a Kit they will
e-mail you upon request. I have not asked for it though.

Does anyone know if Epicor ever came out with a Dump and Load for version 5?

Hi, all.

Is anybody using Diskeeper to defrag their servers? If so, is it necessary
or at least good practice to shut down the database before running it?
Also, are there any FREE defrag utilities for NT Server that anyone is
using and is satisfied with?

Used is at my former position and was very happy with it.

Gary,

I use Diskkeeper on my servers but specifically exclude the drives that the
Vantage database lives on. Progress handles its own form of defrag internal
to the system and after talking with several Progress techs at local
Progress User Group meetings, I've decided its best to leave it that way.
You can force a "Progress defrag" by running the Dump and Load routine.

Does anyone know if Epicor ever came out with a Dump and Load for version 5?

As you may know... the workstation version refuses to run on NT
Server. Even if you only want to defrag the local drives on the
server. You have to shell out a few hundred for "DiskKeeper Server"
version which adds some kinda network wide defrag service and other junk I
have no interest in - very aggravating.

It has an exclusion list you could add *.DB, *.BI, etc. to. But I'd say
it's still a good idea to shut 'em down.

DiskKeeper Lite is a stripped down version of DK 4.0 that will run on NT
Server. Biggest thing it lacks is the ability to defrag the directory
entries -- the current retail version is able to do it by booting
stand-alone. I though it made a noticeable improvement on our Vantage
server. Esp after my recent 4.0 upgrade, with everything scrambled by new
software, DB conversion, and new DB files.
