I do the same that Sue does. I change the company name in company setup to "TEST DATABASE". and make sure that the company name is displayed.

I am wondering if there is an easy way to setup/display the distinction
between LIVE database & TEST Vantage database. Many a time user working

I set entirely different color schemes for each of our databases, then force load that theme through the *.mfgsys file. Works like a charm

You can use the runtime styler to create different styles for each database. This is located under Options on the main Epicor window.

I change the color of the status bar at the bottom. So if you make it red for your test database, every window that opens up also has the red status bar at the bottom.

Ted,
I tried changing the color of the status bar as well, but some of the people were seeing black voids around group boxes in some of the screens. It looked fine on my screen, the server and all of the training PCs. I checked for personalizations on the people having issues, deleted any existing and had them clear cache -- no change. All machines were on Windows 7. Have you (or anyone else) experienced this & if so, were you able to fix it?

I can't say I have seen this before. Appears to be a computer specific issue?

What I do is open the runtime styler, click on the status bar and change the colors. Save the .isl file to the server. Then Options > Styling > Theme Maintenance import the file make it the default and distributable.

Jennifer,

I've seen this, but only on one computer. The only obvious change I noticed was that he was running a different theme than the standard windows theme. I didn't investigate further, but that's where I'd guess the issue was.

In general, we also change the company name to reflect 'TEST' and usually the date of the database restore. If you're running a completely isolated test environment on a different server, you can change one of the config files so that the title bar shows 'Test'.

Finally, I've got a bunch of different colored icons for the test environments, which match to the status bar color of the corresponding test space, so we just refer to them by color.

I created themes in the run-time styler that changed the staus bar, ribbon bar and pretty much anything on the top or bottom of the windows so that it was obvious that you weren't in our live environment. When you restore a backup to the environment, you import that style, and then set it as the default(so everyone sees it). On top of that, I also edit the company name like Sue does. I add ***LAB 10/31/2012*** in front of the company name. The LAB tells them which environment they are in, and the date is the date of the backup that was restored.

Which directory do you save the .isl files in? I've tried a couple of different places and can't get them to show up in the Theme Maintenance search.

I put mine out on a network drive. You then go into Theme Maintenance, and import that theme. Mark it as Distributable, and then under actions, you make that theme the default. It should load for everyone thereafter.

I usually import them into Epicor and then assign them in the mfgsys file. I never have to manage them that way. When I was using them directly out of the filesystem I would have to go set the theme every time we restored out live DB to test.

Which directory do you save the .isl files in? I've tried a couple of different places and can't get them to show up in the Theme Maintenance search.

I do the same that Sue does. I change the company name in company setup to "TEST DATABASE". and make sure that the company name is displayed.
