We have a bunch of old junk in inventory that we need to clear.
I was puzzled to find out that LotNum is not a required field for a DMT Qty Adjustment. There’s probably a simple reason for that…
If I include LotNum in my DMT source file, will it respect it? Otherwise, I imagine it’s using some FIFO logic… right? We definitely have many instances of multiple LotNums of the same PartNum in the same Bin in the same Warehouse… and we might not want to trash all of the lots in all cases - but surely specific lots.
What am I missing here?
Hi Justin,
I’ve always assumed that this is for customers who have products that are not lot tracked - in which case they couldn’t enter a lot number.
If you’re using lot numbers then I think you’d always want to populate it.
Thanks, I figured it was probably as simple as that. I did process a few records without supplying LotNum. I’ll check to see if we have Lot Tracking enabled on those masters. I would hope it would pitch an error if they were.
if lot tracked is enabled it will error out when you try and push something into inventory without a lot.
i did have an unusual instance where a part was not lot tracked but the qty on hand had a lot attached to it. i was unable to modify it through dmt or qty adjust but epicor eventually provided a data fix for this. just an FYI incase you run into that issue
Almost all of our current PartBin records are of Parts with TrackLots=TRUE, including the few records I already processed without supplying LotNum. Would it have errored out if there were multiple lots when I made those adjustments?
Hi Justin,
You may have multiple lots for a part number. I don’t see why you would get an error for uploading multiple lots… Here’s an example where we have multiple lots of a part stored in the same bin in Epicor.
When you do quantity adjustment, if the part has lot tracking turned on, it will be required to enter it anytime you do a transaction.

In my experience since last week, I was able to make qty adjustments on lot tracked parts without supplying LotNum to DMT. I’m reasonably satisfied that I can make lot specific adjustments, now … but I’m wondering how those got through if your statement is true with respect to DMT. Best guess is there was only 1 lot of those few parts I tried - I’ll check that next.
So in Part transaction history tracker for your ADJ-QTY you have no lot number and the part is checked as track lots? We always need to provide a lot for the lot tracked quantity adjustments done via dmt.
The LotNum IS showing in PTHT. I did NOT supply it in the source file. Evidently it defaulted to the only lot that existed.
Actually, no - We had 4000ml of some kind of adhesive in inventory across 2 lots. I used DMT to remove 3000ml. It adjusted the lot that was 3000ml to zero. That’s what we wanted … but I’m scared now.
Edit - spoke too soon. I did supply the LotNum for that adjustment. On the first attempt, without LotNum, it gave me a negative FIFO error. The other 2 records in that batch processed fine, but there was only one lot for those.
