For those that use the DMT, is the order in which the columns are
arranged in the templates important, or does DMT simply read the column
name and map it accordingly?
I ask, because we need to export data from one Epicor 9 database and
import is to another Epicor 9 database and I'm hoping it's just a matter
of dumping the data to a CSV and then importing it.

I have been using this tool for a long time on a regular basis to import the data into E9 from a different database. The DMT does not need to have the columns in the order, but as long as the column name & required fields matches it should be good. Â

Hey guys,
Couple questions about DMT. I am currently using the Updateable Dashboard in Epicor to update a large amount of data fields, but it sucks and I am about to pull my hair out.
I have a large Dashboard that I have created a lot of user defined fields that I update in bulk by using the Updateable Dashboard function.
Is DMT better for this type of daily update of data?
Can I update UD Fields with DMT?
Is there a limit of the amount of records that can be uploaded or updated?
Does the migration of data flawless or are there errors or mistakes by DMT?
The UDashboard won't let me paste update a large amount of lines to update and returns a lot of mistakes. Any info on what works better for my daily updates would be greatly appreciated.

For user-defined fields that don’t go through Epicor processing, I just dump an Excel sheet into Access and write update queries.
So much faster than DMT.

That is beyond my capabilities. I made a dashboard for about 20-25 Dimension fields(L,W,H,LBS,Ship L, Ship W...) and I have an employee that works all new skus and existing ones to get us the most accurate DIMs data possible. Using the Updateable Dashboard is such a mess and unpredictable. Sometimes it lets me dump 25K lines at a time and sometimes it will crash with 1000 lines of data. I have heard of DMT and didn't know if it will help with UD Fields.

Yes, it works with user defined fields. I just find it to be very slow.

Update part set part.character01 = "" where part.typecode = M
It's the kind of code you have to write, one field at time in sql.
In DMT' you begin by creating a template of the table you want to update. You select the field needed to be updated. Then, you fill up your template with your information.
For sure, for each row you update throught DMT, it takes several seconds....
DMT will not work if you have an error, and it will clear what it has done. That way, if there is a mistake, everything is better.
DMT create large tempfiles though.... So you have to start your server sometimes to be sure you clean it.
I do have SQL Manager. I will have to look into that. I have to find a better way of doing this.

I’ll get off this after this but, please seriously consider not updating the database directly. I speak TSQL so, I feel your pain but, the reason that the
DMT takes time to enter records (not all inserts / updates perform the same way. Some take many seconds per record, some are many records per second) is that they are being processed through Epicor’s business objects. Records of related tables may be updated,
data validity is checked, any relevant BPMs or Data Directives you’ve created will do their work.
You can script the DMT to queue up your imports / updates so it can work while you eat dinner. It kicks out any bad records into another file for fixing and
reimporting. We’ve had to have Epicor create templates for us on a few occasions but, I can’t remember that the DMT has ever been the source of a problem.
Just can’t stress enough that you really don’t know the ramifications of bypassing the Business Logic. Updating the database could absolutely corrupt your
database absolutely.

Joe if you go to insights remind me to buy you a drink....Â
Listen to Joe guys its not worth loosing your support (at best) and ruining your DB (at worst). You don't have to buy DMT if you don't want to but do get help form someone and set up a process that uses the business objects (DMT will most likely be cheaper… but ok). Its worth the money and the hassle to know that if something does blow up you'll be covered.
Epicor doesn't do this because they want to be jerks or cause they want your money (ok they do want that, but that's besides the point). They do it to protect you and your data from accidentally destroying / damaging information that may not be able to be recovered.
And you know what I am a "bad ass mofo in T-SQL" <-- take that as a cheeky statement, but I do not ever ever ever update the DB through it. I will query it to hell and back (on read only mode) but I will never update it. Its not worth it.
