Doc Association issues

Actually, we are on 9.04.506C, but I will say that there do still seem to be bugs or weird quirks having to do with attachments. However, I was able to figure out what was causing our issues. When I had created a document association for PDFs, I forgot to add "&1" after the executable name (i.e. Acrobat.exe "&1"). I'm not sure what that does, but apparently some computers need it. My computer and the computers used in testing worked just fine without it, but for some reason a few of our users' computers had issues using just the exectuable name without "&1".

I could swear that this was working before but hell if I remember...

I have various pdf files associated throughout my database...cannot view anything. Keep getting access denied messages file cannot be found.

Is there a limit in the path?

Can anyone give me the proper commands to set this up, just in case?

associated how? a URL? Depending on the answer to the "how", access denied messages can be generated by (the lack of) user permissions at the target location, windows 2003 file security shenanigans, cross-server file security issues, domain security policies, etc. I believe the max path is 255 chars, but i could be wrong.

Thanks,
Kunal

I have absolutely no permissions on the server! Yes I know this is a
bad idea....

When you attach anything through doc assoc it asks where the file is
located...and I go down that path to find the file. Then I try to open
it from Vista and that is when I get the messages.

sounds like a permissions issue. check with your admin to see what kind of permissions your network login account has. if you can see the file, you probably have read permissions (assuming this is a windows server) - can you copy the file to your desktop and open it there?

is the target server on which the files reside on a different domain? is the vista machine you are using on the same domain as the file server? another possibility might be drive mapping vs. UNC paths - perhaps your machine has a different path defined for a drive letter than the person on whose machine you tried it.

I am the admin....

yes I can view it anywhere but within the system.

I had some else try it out and they had no problems. I know it sounds
like a permission thing but I am not finding it anywhere.

sounds like a permissions issue. check with your admin to see what kind
of permissions your network login account has. if you can see the file,
you probably have read permissions (assuming this is a windows server) -
can you copy the file to your desktop and open it there?

Thanks,
Kunal

associated how? a URL? Depending on the answer to the "how", access
denied messages can be generated by (the lack of) user permissions at
the target location, windows 2003 file security shenanigans,
cross-server file security issues, domain security policies, etc. I
believe the max path is 255 chars, but i could be wrong.

We ran across the same issue where some people could view the attachment/link and others can't. We know it isn't a permission issue and we have verified everything else that was mentioned in this string. Did you ever figure out what was causing this problem?

Thanks,
Adele
