Document Association (V5.1)

Jerry,

Can I assume you're storing the file path in a User Field...? Does the VB
from button launch the document viewer application? I'd be interested to
know how this works.

Thanks!

We have associated documents using a VB form in the sales order. We scan a
copy of the customer PO and link it to the sales order head via a button on
the VB form.

Does anyone know of a way to associate documents in Sales Orders and
Purchase Orders. You know there
are document management access points in Part Revisions, Quotes, and various
other places, but Sales Orders
and Purchase Orders have no such linkage available. I have users generating
reems of hardcopy and then filing
the packets because there is no electronic linkage in these modules.
In our machine shop, many of the parts manufactured are one-time only parts
that have no part header set up, so
the only access point I now have is from a quote. If the part was not
quoted, I am out of luck.
Regards, and better days ahead!

I have written a custom program to scan and attach documents. You can have
a copy of it with source code as long as you dont redistribute it. It does
require MS SQL Server. Its still a work in progress. Its written in VB 6
but I have started moving it to VB Net. Right now we use a tracker to look
up the documents. If you want to change anything then you need VB 6 and the
Active X Controls. I think the cost for the active X controls are around
$300.00 I am working on a procedure to be able to open items directly from
vantage. Its easy enough but I just havnt had the time.
You can scan/attach items by Part, Sales Order, Job, RMA, Purchase Order,
Customer, Venodor and Other. The other catagory allows you to add new
catagories without any programming. It has an inspection function that
allows inspectors to brand their inpsection stamp anywhere on a tif file.
If your not a vb person then it may be to much. I dont know, I've not tried
to share it with anyone yet.

You can see screen shots at http://www.ktcorp.com/vantage/DocMang/

I will help where I can and try to fix bugs.

Let me know if your intersted.
Thanks

Jeremy,
it looks like a great application. Unfortunately, we do not have
SQL here.
Jerry Boyle says there is a way to provide linkage via a command button in
VB.
thanks a bunch.
