Document Attachments - allowed file formats for storage

We have a process that auto strips email attachments, run them thru an OCR type software and then via a service connect auto attach them.  It then sends notifications depending on information read from the attached files.  We have limited this to .pdf only though.

Subject: [Vantage] Document Attachments - allowed file formats for storage

Good Afternoon,

We use document attachments in Epicor.  We have a bpm that forces users to select a document type in order to attach. This helps herd the cats a bit :)  We are going to be adding many new file types to different tables and it is a good time to consider what file formats we will allow to attach.  We use a separate server to store our attachments.

I generally want to go with PDF format, but I am considering allowing use of outlook messages, as they are so easy to attach, and they even bring email attachments with them (.msg).  I don't think we need to allow office file formats, we'll probably just go with pdf on those, which will keep read-only unless somebody gets idea to use adobe pro or something.

Is anyone else using document attachments in Epicor significantly?

Anyone have thoughts on file formats to allow and any thoughts on allowing email msg attachments?

thanks

nancy
