Does anyone bother creating Schema Cache files anymore?

We were having Vantage login times of 3 to 4 minutes
on XP machines and sluggish performance. Changed the
NIC settings to 100 half duplex instead of Auto or 100
Full duplex cut login time to 15 seconds and Vantage
runs snappier.

Patrick,
We are a new customer to ERP systems and went live in June, 03. I
originally started the implementation with version 5.2 but upgraded
to version 6.0. I know that this is risky, but figured that we could
find the bugs and develop work-arounds before everyone got trained on
the system. My biggest headache has been that our network backbone
is Novell. The server containing the Vantage database does not have
any Novell software on it, but all other servers and workstations
do. We also have not upgraded our network to optimize its
performance. This resulted in log-in times of 45 seconds to 3
minutes. I have tried every suggestion of Epicors for optimizing the
settings short of tearing out our network. Once I implemented the
Schema Cache files, the log-in time was cut to about 30 seconds to 1
minute max. It significantly reduced our network traffic at startup.
