Does the asterisk next to field names mean mandatory?

We are upgrading from 2022 classic to 2025.2 in the web browser.
We are finding that some field names have an asterisk next to them.
I am assuming that it corresponds to the field being mandatory, but some cases, we don’t have to fill them in.

For example, when allocating by serial number in the Fulfillment Workbench, there are fields in the “Ad Hoc Allocation Template” slideout panel that have an asterisk, but we can continue without filling them in.

It is causing some people to question.

I believe those * fields are necessary to create a new record. Sometimes Epicor creates values or uses default values for those fields, so you may not have to specifically fill them in.
