Dump & Load in 6.1

Hello Dwight,

The Dump and Load effectively defragments the database and rebuilds the
indices. If your DB has a high scatter factor it will reduce the size of
the d(x) file(s), truncate the BI and improve the system's performance.

accomplishes?

Thanks.

Does anyone know if MS SQL Server Express 2005 will run Service Connect?

We have installed SQL Server Express, but receive the following error
when installing Servic Connect and it is trying to create the database.

Cannot connect to the database. SQLOLEDB Error=-2147467259,
Description: SQL Server does not exist or access denied.

We can connect to the database by using the SQL Server Management Tool.

Any insight would be appreciated.

Yes, ESC will run on SQL Express 2005 ...

What version of ESC are you installing?

Need to append '\SQLExpress' after your SQL Server specification during
the install.

I got this by contacting Epicor Support. Not mentioned in the
documentation anywhere!

Good Morning Everyone,

Is any one using more then one applied labor account? We are setting up
our system and it looks like we will need to use more then one.

How are you setting up the Applied labor and overhead (Offset account).
It looks like one applied labor account and that will not work for us.

1 hour of labor at $30.00 and $40.00 overhead on a Meter department job.
Our current process is:

Debits

Inventory

120-1330-00 WIP Labor 30.00

120-1331-00 WIP Overhead 40.00

Credits

Income Statement

120-5400-00 Labor Applied 30.00

120-6900-00 Overhead Applied 40.00

This changes for each department.

Any Suggestions?

Thank you,

My understanding is that a best practice would be to perform this
operation once per year, but it has never been done here. We're going
to be upgrading to v8.xx soon, and I think it'd be a good idea to D&L
before we begin the upgrade/conversion.

Could someone please describe for me the procedure for performing this
operation, including the tools to use and the steps necessary to
successfully execute the whole thing? I have an idea of where to look
and what tools to use, but something isn't clicking as to how to get all
the pieces lined up.

Thanks.

Follow-Up:

In the "Data Admin" tool, the options for "Dump" and "Load" are
greyed-out - is this right, or am I missing something?

My understanding after some reading from the Progress KB is that I dump
the database defs and data, then load them into a new database. Then,
my guess is, I either tell Vantage to look at the new DB, or I rename
the old DB, rename the new DB, and start the services again.

So I think it's those greyed-out selections that are my stumbling point
right now.

Thanks.

Ari,

I've completed D&L in both 6.1 and 8.0.

You should request the D&L kit from support. You'll want the
MkBinaryDmp.P procedure. The kit includes a 20 page BinaryDumpLoad.doc
that steps you through the entire process -- things like how to open
Data Administration with -RX so you can write to the database...

I often find fault with their documentation & guides but this one is
spot on!

Regards, Lee
